Good teams manage to find ways to persevere in spite of self-inflicted wounds. Such was the case of the Jacksonville Jaguars when they beat the Arizona Cardinals in Week 12. Although they had their NFC West against the ropes at several points, they were unable to put them away in regulation. The game ended up going to overtime, where both the offense and the defense delivered to win 27-24.
You could make the case that Jacksonville barely survived. A team such as the Cardinals shouldn't have given it so much trouble, but that's how things played out on any given Sunday. The Jags nearly found themselves on the losing end but were able to bounce back to come out on top. And while several players deserve praise for coming up clutch, it all wouldn't have been possible without head coach Liam Coen.
Liam Coen and the Jaguars aren't apologizing to anybody
Following the 27-24 overtime win over the Chargers, Liam Coen met with his team in the locker room. He was fired up and made it clear that the Jags won't be apologizing to anybody for winning, even if the Cardinals took things to the wire. Below's the speech.
We’d like to apologize…

You should be fired up after listening to it. Michael DiRocco of ESPN noted that you could hear a mix of yelling and cheers in the aftermath of the win.
Interview room is next to locker room. We can hear Coen yelling, cheers, more yelling, more cheers, more yelling, more cheers.

Already, the Jaguars racked up as many wins as most outlets projected before the season. And while they've struggled to trounce the Las Vegas Raiders and the Arizona Cardinals, they showed out against the San Francisco 49ers, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Barring a full collapse, they have a realistic chance to go 10-7.

Liam Coen is instilling resilience in the Jaguars
When the Jaguars hired Coen in early January, he made it clear that he wanted to mold them into a physical team. Of course, all coaches will say that, but getting it done is a whole different deal. Coen has quickly accomplished his goal, and the Jags are quickly taking on his personality.
You will hear players such as Brenton Strange say that they want to impose their will against opponents. Similarly, Trevor Lawrence said that he won't apologize for turning the ball over, basically noting that the Jags ultimately got the win because they kept fighting, and that's what matters.
Following the win over Arizona, the Jags hold the sixth seed in the playoffs. Of course, there's still plenty of time in the season, but there's no doubt that they've shown notable growth under Coen. Heck, they're just one game behind the Indianapolis Colts in the race for the AFC South title.
If you told someone in the offseason that the Jaguars would be in the thick of the playoff race after how things ended in the Doug Pederson era last year, you probably got a blank stare, but that's where they currently sit. And it wouldn't be possible without Liam Coen.
