After completing their coaching staff, the Jacksonville Jaguars have fully turned their attention to filling their general manager vacancy. They've already met with a handful of candidates and they're expected to interview others. One of them could have a leg up in the process if the Jags are looking for experience at the position.

Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports that former Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson is set to interview for the job.

This isn't scoop isn't particularly surprising when you take into account that Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated said before the search started that Robinson, along with Ethan Waugh, and Ian Cunningham, would be in the mix for the job.

Moreover, Josina Anderson broke the news that Jacksonville was interested in meeting with a candidate with prior experience at the position. Robinson fits the bill.

Robinson became the Tennessee general manager in 2016. Right off the bat, he had success, adding veteran DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry to the backfield in his first season on the job. But it wasn't until 2019 that the Titans really hit their stride when they signed Ryan Tannehill.

Originally slated to back up Marcus Mariota, Tannehill became the starter behind center and led Tennessee to the AFC Championship. Unfortunately, the Titans wouldn't remain at the top for long due to Robinson's puzzling decisions.

Robinson used first-round picks in offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson and cornerback Caleb Farley in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The former only lasted one season in Nashville and is out of the league while the latter was hampered by injuries and was released before the start of the 2024 season.

However, Robinson's most questionable decision was arguably trading wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2022 draft in exchange for first and third-round picks. The move became viral because then-head coach Mike Vrabel was less than enthused.

With the first-round selection the Titans acquired, they selected Treylon Burks, an underwhelming player who's not done much of note the past three seasons. Meanwhile, Brown played a big role in helping Philadelphia beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59. In the end, Robinson's misses were too many to overcome and Tennessee moved on from him in 2023.

On a related note, the Jaguars met with candidates Los Angeles Rams director of scouting strategy James Gladstone, Cincinnati Bengals director of player personnel Trey Brown, and San Francisco 49ers director of scouting operations Josh Williams.

Jon Robinson is one of many candidates in the Jaguars GM search

You could make the case that Jon Robinson's experience could give him the edge in the Jaguars general manager search. However, it may not be as much of an advantage when you take into account that he got diminished results as his stint in Tennessee went one. Having said that, Jacksonville deserves praise for casting a wide net in their search for Trent Baalke's replacement.

Keep in mind that there are no signs Robinson is the favorite for the job but rather one of many candidates for the position. And if the Jags are truly doing due diligence, they'll probably see that there are more qualified people for the job. Moreover, it doesn't hurt to pick up a former general manager's brains along the way.

The bottom line is that the latest Jon Robinson news doesn't really inspire confidence, but there's no reason to press the panic button. At least not yet.
