Once the Jacksonville Jaguars finished assembling their coaching staff, they began to look for a new general manager. They've already put in a handful of requests for interviews and met with some of the candidates. However, insider Josina Anderson reveals that the search may have a twist.

Hours after Anderson broke the news that the Jags were meeting with Bills director of player personnel Terrance Gray, she reported that they had formally expressed interest in interviewing a former NFL general manager for their vacancy.

Anderson adds that it remains unclear if the interest will turn into a formal setting but points out that a source gave her a name to keep an eye on during the search.

Later in the thread, Anderson is asked to provide a name but says she's not in a position to do so. The same day she shared her scoop, Jacksonville announced that it completed an interview with San Francisco 49ers director/scouting football operations Josh Williams.

So far, Williams is the only candidate the Jaguars have interviewed for their general manager job. However, they've also placed requests to meet with Los Angeles Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander, New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown, Cincinnati Bengals director of player personnel Trey Brown, and Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham. They also wanted to meet with Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager Greenberg, but he withdrew his name from consideration.

Originally, Jacksonville intended to keep Baalke around, with owner Shad Khan noting that he was an important part of the operation. However, his presence was actively hurting the search for a head coach, and the team moved on from him when Liam Coen refused to meet with the team for their head coaching vacancy.

As soon as Baalke was gone, Coen resumed talks with the Jags and eventually became their head coach.

Is Jon Robinson the surprise candidate for the Jaguars GM job?

Before the Jacksonville Jaguars formally began their search for a general manager, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated said three names were on the mix: Interim general manager Ethan Waugh, Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham, and former Titans general manager Jon Robinson.

Vice president of football operations Tony Boselli has already stated that Waugh is a finalist for the job, and Cunningham is scheduled to meet with the organization. The one that stood out of the three was Robinson, who was the Tennessee general manager from 2016-2022.

Of the candidates Breer mentioned to keep an eye on, Robinson was the only one with prior experience at the position. He had early success during his stint with the Titans but eventually struggled to replenish the roster, which is why he was let go. And precisely because of that, it's odd that the Jags would be interested in him. Then again, there's a chance he's not the candidate Josina Anderson discussed.

Either way, the Jacksonville Jaguars may be better off with a young general manager with no prior experience at the position. After all, what good does experience do if it didn't lead to success?
