The Jacksonville Jaguars just got a huge upgrade to their offense after the bombshell trade for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers this week. While quarterback Trevor Lawrence has had his own struggles this season, it's also undeniable that he hasn't had the best receiver corps to work with.

With Meyers on board, that all changes. One of the biggest issues the Jaguars have faced so far this season is drops; Jacksonville has the highest drop rate in the league. Meyers, meanwhile, has one of the lowest.

The timing for this trade couldn't be better. Obviously, it came just before the deadline, but it is also a prime point of the season for the Jaguars. In Week 9, Jacksonville came out with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders, while the Indianapolis Colts, who currently lead the AFC South, lost.

Why Jakobi Meyers has Jaguars fans fired up about the team’s newest weapon

Adam Hill, a beat writer for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, had high praise for Meyers in a recent interview. Hill noted that Meyers is a dynamic player who will be a huge playmaker for the Jaguars.

"Incredibly dependable last year. It was actually kind of a mini controversy, because I believe he was the only receiver in the league that didn't have a drop," Hill said in an appearance on 1010 XL. "He actually kind of pointed out to us or doing a story."

Hill continued, "He's like, I think there was one I should have had that they didn't count as a drop. So he's, like, very accountable, even about that saying, 'Hey, I don't want that credit for that. I think I should have caught one, and it didn't count against me; but certainly dependable."

Later in the appearance, Hill pointed out that Meyers will do everything he can to make the catch, and when he isn't the prime target, he'll serve as a good blocker for other receivers, too. "All the dirty work that you need from one receiver, he does."

The Jaguars were struggling at wide receiver before Meyers was signed. The most obvious issue is the drops, which general manager James Gladstone just alluded to, saying Meyers' "superpower" is his lack of drops. Both Brian Thomas, Jr. and Dyami Brown have struggled in this area, and while Travis Hunter has been increasingly productive, he's now on injured reserve.

And that's another issue the Jaguars needed help with; their depth at wide receiver is bleak, to say the least. Brown and Hunter are both injured at the moment, and according to the Jaguars' most recent injury report, Thomas may be injured now, too.

That left only Parker Washington. And now, thankfully, the Jaguars also have Meyers. Reportedly, Meyers wanted out of Las Vegas, and it worked out in the best possible way for Jacksonville. Trevor Lawrence now has not only another wide receiver to target, but one who is a serious playmaker at that.

Meyers is even getting props from a former Jaguars quarterback, who also previously played with Meyers in New England. According to Lawrence, Mac Jones texted him to congratulate him on the pick, saying Meyers is one of his "favorite guys" to have ever played with.

All in all, this amounts to a lot of good news for Jaguars fans, wrapped up in one promising players. This gives the offense an even better chance at finally clicking and making the impact in the second half of the season that could take Jacksonville to the playoffs... or even beyond.
