With the Jacksonville Jaguars struggling at the receiver position, it came as no surprise that James "Intangibly Rich" Gladstone has activated the trade machine. Just hours before the trade deadline on November 4th, the Jaguars swapped a fourth- and sixth-round draft pick for Las Vegas wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. This came just a couple of days after the Jaguars defeated the Raiders 30-29 in overtime.
What does this mean for Jacksonville? Expect to see an immediate improvement in the passing game. Meyers is coming off his best season in 2024, where he caught 87 balls for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns. So far in 2025, he's snagged 33 receptions for 352 yards, already placing him No. 2 overall among Jaguars receivers. Moreover, he got a seal of approval from a former Jaguars quarterback.

Former Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones praises Jakobi Meyers
If the numbers aren't enough to get Jaguars fans excited, perhaps they can heed the words of a former Jaguars quarterback—and former New England Patriot quarterback and current San Francisco 49ers quarterback. Shortly after the trade, 49ers quarterback Mac Jones texted Trevor Lawrence to assure him Meyers was a great pick.
"He's been great so far," Lawrence said (0:10 mark) when asked about Meyers. "I just met him. Obviously, I don't know him super well. But Mac Jones actually texted me when we got him...He said, 'You're going to love him. [He's] one of my favorite guys I've ever played with.' So, [Mac Jones] said great things about [Meyers]."

Jones' and Meyers' relationship began during Jones' first year in New England in 2021, where Meyers was already a two-year veteran and Jones was a recently drafted rookie. Jones targeted him 126 times that first year, with 83 receptions for 866 yards and two touchdowns. The following year, the two connected 67 times for 804 yards and six touchdowns. Since then, Meyers has never fallen below 800 yards or four touchdowns in a year.

Final thoughts
The Jacksonville Jaguars are sitting at a healthy 5-3, meaning they would be in the playoffs as a wild card if the season ended today. They remain a game-and-a-half behind the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts (7-2), with plenty of time to catch up. The trade for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is a clear move to shore up a struggling and injury-riddled position with the hopes of continuing their push for the playoffs.
And Meyers comes with the Mac Jones seal of approval. What else could you ask for?
