The Jacksonville Jaguars could be short-handed when they face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10. While Trevor Lawrence was the most notable inclusion in their final injury report, he's not the only key contributor who may not be available for the Jags.
Lawrence is dealing with a shoulder injury and is unlikely to play. He was limited in practice ahead of the game, and head coach Doug Pederson didn't sound overly optimistic about his availability. Then again, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that there's a chance No. 16 will miss a few games, pointing out that "he appears to be more week-to-week than day-to-day.
Heading into the game, chatter about Lawrence potentially getting season-ending surgery surfaced after Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that the fourth-year quarterback was weighing his options. However, there are no signs — as of this writing — that getting a procedure done on his shoulder is on the table. If he ultimately doesn't suit up, Mac Jones will get the starting nod.
Jones, a first-round pick in 2021, was traded to the Jaguars earlier this year after spending his first three NFL seasons with the New England Patriots. He's mostly seen playing time when in mop-up duty this season, but he had a strong preseason, completing 73.1 percent of his passes for 421 yards with three touchdowns and no picks.
As insurance in case Lawrence doesn't play, the Jags brought back a familiar face in C.J. Beathard. A third-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, the former Iowa Hawkeye signed with Jacksonville in 2021 and was their primary backup quarterback the past three seasons. However, he competed with Jones for the No. 2 and was released with a settlement after suffering a groin injury.
Beathard joined the Miami Dolphins' practice squad in October, but the Jaguars managed to get him back because they signed him to the active roster.
Aside from Lawrence, safety Daniel Thomas (hamstring), Keilan Robinson (toe), wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (chest), safety Andrew Wingard (knee), return specialist Devin Duvernay (hamstring), and wide receiver Gabe Davis (shoulder) were listed as questionable Week 10.
The only Jaguar who's already been ruled out for the game is left guard Ezra Cleveland, who suffered an ankle injury in Week 8.
Wingard and Duvernay got their 21-window to practice activated after spending time on Injured Reserve. The former suffered a knee injury in training camp and the latter hurt his hamstring in Week 5. The team announced ahead of the game that it's activated both of them for Week 10, meaning that there's a strong chance they'll suit up.
On the opposite sideline, Blake Cashman (turf toe), Ivan Pace Jr. (knee), and rookie Gabe Murphy are questionable for the Vikings.
