Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is trending toward not playing against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10. However, he's far from the only player who may not be available for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jags posted the injury report for Week 10. Apart from Lawrence, running back Keilan Robinson (toe), safety Andrew Wingard (knee), running back D'Ernest Johnson (hamstring), wide receiver Gabe Davis (shoulder), Brian Thomas Jr. (chest), safety Daniel Thomas (hamstring), and return specialist Devin Duvernay (hamstring) got the questionable designation.
On the other hand, the team has already ruled out left guard Ezra Cleveland and defensive tackle Maason Smith. This isn't surprising when you take into account that head coach Doug Pederson told the local media Friday that both of them might need a week to bounce back.
"Probably two right now, Ezra and Mason," Pederson said when asked which players apart from Lawrence might not play in Week 10. "Probably just because, Mason is still probably a week , and Ezra is probably, another week too. So when I say Mason could be, could be right next week, right? So those two right now, as far as injury goes."
On the other hand, Pederson is optimistic Wingard and Duvernay will suit up. Both of them are coming off Injured Reserve.
"You get Dewey back in the mix, obviously, special teams guy, safety Duvernay comes back this week, he's looked good this week. So barring, again, setbacks, but that should be, should be good for us this week, changes in the receiver or the older, injuries in the receiver room," Pederson said.
Wingard suffered a knee injury in training camp and has yet to make his regular-season debut. He might make it Sunday. Duvernay had a hamstring injury in Week 5 and spent the last four weeks on IR. His window to return was just activated. At the same time, the Jags signed quarterback C.J. Beathard from the Miami Dolphins' practice squad. Here's the full report.
On the opposite sideline, the Minnesota Vikings listed linebackers Blake Cashman (turf toe) and Ivan Pace Jr. (knee) as questionable. Both of them have a good chance of suiting up. Rookie linebacker Gabe Murphy also got the questionable tag but may not be available until next week.
Mac Jones will need to come through for the Jaguars in Week 10
All things considered, Trevor Lawrence's injury is the most notable one the Jaguars are dealing with. If he misses the game, Mac Jones will make his first start of the season. So far, he's handled mop-up duty but says he's been preparing and is ready to go.
On the other hand, if Ezra Cleveland is unavailable, third-year pro Luke Fortner will get the nod at left guard.
The silver lining is that Brian Thomas Jr. and Gabe Davis will be at full strength or as close as they can be against the Minnesota Vikings. Jones will need all the help he can get, and a full array of weapons would give him a chance to pull off an upset.
In the end, the Jacksonville Jaguars will probably miss Trevor Lawrence, but they traded for Mac Jones for situations like this.
