The Jacksonville Jaguars let Travis Etienne walk in free agency, but they're confident that Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez can fill the void left by his departure. However, there's a bit of a flaw in that plan.

Tuten has made the most of his chances at Organized Team Activities, but Rodriguez has been absent. It looks like he's dealing with an injury, but the team's brass hasn't revealed many details.

While it's possible that Rodriguez's absence will be a nothingburger, Jacksonville may want to consider all its options, including bringing in external help. And if that's the route the Jags choose, an NFL analyst just came up with an unexpected suggestion.

The Jaguars are being urged to trade fro Tyler Allgeier

Benjamin Solak of ESPN drew up a list of roster upgrades and included Tyler Allgeier, arguing that he could be expendable after the Arizona Cardinals drafted Jeremiyah Love.

Among Love's potential destinations, Solak included the Jaguars, pointing out that they could use reinforcements at running back even with Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez in the mix.

"Buccaneers RB Bucky Irvin is out for the summer and potentially into the fall with lingering shoulder issues," Solak wrote. "And the Jaguars' RB room, featuring Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez, is still mighty thin. If the Cardinals want to trade Allegeier, despite signing him to a multiyear free agent contract just months ago, they should have suitors."

Allgeier signed a two-year deal worth $12.5 million with the Cards because he wanted to get a chance to start, something that wasn't going to be possible with the Atlanta Falcons. However, he wouldn't have imagined that Arizona was going to draft Love third overall.

That said, it's hard to see the Cardinals just trading Allgeier just a few months after signing him, even after bringing in Love. That said, this would be an intriguing pitch worth considering.

A fifth-round pick as a rookie, Allgeier racked up more than 1000 yards rushing as a rookie and had 600 or more yards in two of the past three seasons. He could most definitely give the Jacksonville backfield a boost. That said, there are a handful of reasons this isn't a trade the Jaguars would probably make.

Why the Jaguars aren't a realistic trade destination for Tyler Allgeier

There's no doubt that Tyler Allegeier is a fine player who could help several teams across the NFL. That said, the Jaguars aren't probably one of them, as their need at running back has been vastly overblown. Sure, Rodriguez is dealing with some sort of injury, but LeQuint Allen Jr., DeeJay Dallas, and J'Mari Taylor can step in during his absence.

Moreover, Rodriguez was much better in 2025 than his statline suggested. Although he only logged 500 yards on 112 carries, he ranked second among 48 running backs with 4.0 yards after contact per attempt. Similarly, his rushing success rate of 45.5 percent was eighth. Simply put, he should make an impact if once he's back at full strength.

On the other hand, Bhayshul Tuen should have no trouble showcasing his speed and explosiveness with Travis Etienne in the mix. In fact, head coach Liam Coen expects the coaching staff to fully take advantage of his whole skill set next season.

When you add it all up, the Jaguars aren't currently in need of help at running back. Sure, the idea of trading for Tyler Allgeier sounds compelling, but it's one they can afford to pass on.
