One day after the gritty 22-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, reports surfaced that the Jacksonville Jaguars had signed cornerback Alijah Huzzie and Jaylon Jones. However, the team didn't make an announcement then. Moreover, the Jags didn't have space on their 53-man roster, so we didn't know how they would make room for Huzzie and Jones. We now know the answer.

Jacksonville announced that it signed Huzzie and Jones to the active roster. In corresponding moves, they placed sophomore safety Caleb Ransaw on the Injured Reserve and waived cornerback Christian Braswell.

Ransaw missed his rookie campaign with a leg injury but had a substantial role behind Antonio Johnson and Eric Johnson. By landing on IR, though, his second NFL campaign may have come to an end.

Why the Jaguars placed Caleb Ransaw on the IR, waived Christian Braswell?

Caleb Ransaw was the No. 3 safety behind Antonio Johnson and Eric Johnson. He appeared in four games this season, logging 59 snaps on defense and registering 10 total tackles. The former Tulane Green Wave left the Bengals game with a knee injury and didn't return.

Thus far, head coach Liam Coen hasn't provided an update but probably will once he meets with the local media Wednesday. For the time being, it's hard to tell the severity of Ransaw's injury and whether he'll be on short-term IR or miss the remainder of the season.

With Eric Murray also dealing with a concussion in Week 4, sophomore Rayuan Lane will see an uptick in playing time. Ditto, rookie Jalen Huskey, who's been a healthy scratch several times this season and has yet to play a snap on defense or special teams.

On the other hand, it was a bit surprising to see Jacksonville waive Christian Braswell. A sixth-round pick in 2025, he earned the fifth roster spot at corner over sophomore Jabbar Muhammad. The former Rutgers Scarlet Knight was listed as questionable in Week 4 and didn't suit up. Before that, he had played a total of 15 defensive snaps, so moving on from him isn't a big blow.

In fact, the team's brass might not have been thrilled with their cornerback depth and took advantage of the opportunity to sign Jaylon Jones and Alijah Huzzie.

Something worth pointing out is that Montaric Brown, like Christian Braswell, missed the Bengals game but wasn't placed on IR, meaning that he'll return to the lineup sooner rather than later. For the time being, though, Travis Hunter and Jarrian Jones should have no trouble holding the fort.

That said, Jacksonville does need depth after waiving Christian Braswell. You would think that Jabbar Muhammad, who's on the practice squad, would be a candidate to join the 53-man roster, but the team's brass might not be pleased with his progress. Hence, the Jalen Jones and Alijah Huzzie signings.

Jones spent the past four seasons with the Chicago Bears but also had a brief stint with the Arizona Cardinals in 2025. When Jamal St. Cyr of News4Jax broke the news that Jones had signed with the Jags, it was unknown at the time whether he landed on the active roster or the practice squad. It was the former. The same with Huzzie, an undrafted free agent in 2025 who spent his rookie campaign with the Houston Texans.

Both Huzzie and Jones give the Jaguars immediate experience at cornerback, but barring further injuries at corner, the expectation is that neither will get much playing time the remainder of the year.
