The Jacksonville Jaguars will go into the 2025 season likely already having their top two running backs in place between Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby. It isn't a secret and the position isn't necessarily a need, for now.
But, after the 2025 season? That's a different story. Will the Jaguars keep Etienne around for the long haul? Is Bigsby able to take on a bigger workload? In summary, this team could use a third back by way of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Why not go out and make a fun pick like selecting Travis' brother out of Georgia? Trevor Etienne is an intriguing prospect in this year's class and, while he's not one of the very top players at the position, he'll still likely hear his name called and find a role in the NFL. Georgia is an NFL talent production line, and Etienne is just one of several to be next in line making the jump from Bulldog to the pros.
Georgia RB Trevor Etienne 2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Notes
- Height: 5-9
- Weight: 198
- Brother of Jaguars' RB Travis Etienne
- Third-team All SEC in 2024
Positives
- Low mileage with plenty of tread on his tires; averaged 124 carries per season over three years
- Makes up for lack of elite athleticism with great vision, balance and patience
- Excellent receiver with sticky hands and an ability to add yards after the catch in a variety of ways
For a team wanting a running back that simply knows how to get his four or five yards per carry, Etienne is your guy. He'll get the job done, albeit not in a fancy way. Etienne isn't going to make many highlight reels, but he will offer efficiency one way or another. In both running the ball and being a third down ace, Etienne is diversely-talented.
Negatives
- Lacks breakaway speed once through to the second level
- Not strong enough to be a threat breaking tackles
- Arrest in 2024 is a concern (DUI, reckless driving ... DUI charges were eventually dropped)
Etienne is a bit undersized and some wonder if his less-than-ideal speed and athleticism will be a problem in the NFL. He's a smart player, but lacks a lot of the physical tools needed to succeed at the pro level.
Trevor Etienne NFL Player Comparison: Kenneth Gainwell
The two of them are low to the ground and play similar styles of ball. Kenneth Gainwell isn't the most athletic or quickest, but he's a patient runner who can do what he needs to do on most given downs. There is a reason Gainwell has a job and will continue to do so. He's efficient and does many things well. He's just not a superstar in any particular area, and that's how you could describe Etienne.
Trevor Etienne 2025 NFL Draft Grade: Rounds 4/5
Because Etienne is well-rounded, he's going to be drafted. He'll find a role in the NFL. It's just a matter of being used to his strengths, which Liam Coen could definitely do. Coen's history using offensive players to their strengths is no secret.
