Jaguars’ next contract decision is abundantly clear after Brenton Strange extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars recently extended tight end Brenton Strange, and now it’s time for the team to take care of business with another veteran.

On Wednesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran tight end Brenton Strange to a three-year contract extension worth up to $48 million, with $25 million guaranteed. It was a well-earned extension for Strange, who’s coming off the best season of his career with 46 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns.

The tight end, still just 25 years old, is only expected to get better as he continues to grow in head coach Liam Coen’s offense. With him, Nate Boerkircker, and Tanner Koziol in the fold, Jacksonville will be able to run more two and three-tight end sets next season. There's no doubt that extending Strange was the right call, but he isn’t the only young Jaguars weapon coming off a promising season who has earned a new deal.

Strange’s draft classmate Parker Washington also had somewhat of a breakout season in 2025. That’s why it seems like a no-brainer decision that Jacksonville will now extend the young receiver.

Jaguars must extend Parker Washington after giving Brenton Strange a new deal

Washington, a sixth-round pick for Jacksonville back in 2023, established himself as a contributor early in his career. As a rookie, the receiver caught 16 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Those numbers improved to 32 receptions for 390 yards and three touchdowns in 2024 when he filled in for Christian Kirk.

The Jags saw enough progress from Washington that they traded Kirk to the Houston Texans. The decision paid off immediately.

With Kirk out of the picture, Washington made a significant leap in 2025, catching 58 receptions for 847 yards and five touchdowns. He’s now viewed as one of the top options in Jacksonville’s loaded receiver room, and that should bode well for his pockets.

The 2026 season is the final year of Washington’s rookie contract, and his stock is as high as its ever been. Just as the team did with Strage, it would make sense for the Jaguars to go ahead and take care of business with Washington now.

Getting a deal done ahead of the season would give Washington security, prevent him from ever reaching free agency, and it could also save the team a little bit of money.

Parker Washington is just 24 years old and has significantly improved each season. It seems like everything is pointing to him having an even bigger season in 2026, and if that happens before the receiver gets a new deal, the price will certainly be going up. The Jaguars should just get ahead of everything right now and secure another member of their talented young core.
