After addressing the larger scale roster in the NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars are preparing for rookie minicamp. But before they start, they've made a roster move.

The Jags announced that they've released offensive lineman Sal Wormley on their official website. They didn't make a corresponding move, so they have a spot open on their 90-man roster.

After going undrafted in 2025, Wormley signed with Jacksonville. He spent the offseason with them and eventually landed in the practice squad. He never saw action as a rookie. After the regular season ended, the former Penn State Nittany Lion signed a future contract to stay in Duval. However, it looks like the Jaguars have seen enough of him to decide to move in a different direction.

What's next after the Jaguars released Sal Wormley

The truth is that Sal Wormley was never going to make the team. And after the roster additions, he was going to be a long shot to make the practice squad. Jacksonville is stacked on the offensive line, with Emmanuel Pregnon and sophomores Jonah Monheim and Wyatt Milum tentatively competing for starting jobs.

Simply, Wormly didn't have a chance. By releasing him, the Jaguars are giving him a chance to latch onto another team now.

The Jags, for their part, will have the chance to add reinforcement to the roster. Sure, they just came out of the draft with a 10-player haul, but they won't pass up the chance to fortify a position if they can, even if it's already in good shape.

The team's brass could host a tryout or possibly sign a free agent. If that's the case, maybe Jacksonville is setting its sights on a pass rusher. If they want instant help, Cameron Jordan or Jadeveon Clowney make the most sense. Another option would be running back; the Jaguars don't seemingly need to bolster their backfield, but several analysts think they should, suggesting they either bring in Najee Harris or Austin Ekeler.

Either way, cutting ties with Sal Wormley, the Jaguars have the flexiblity to tweak the roster.

The Jaguars have options (and cap space) after releasing Sal Wormley

It's possible that the Jaguars are simply weighing their options after releasing Sal Wormley. However, general manager James Gladstone was very active after the draft last year, signing veteran Dennis Gardeck, wide receiver Trenton Irwin, and pass rushers Emmanuel Ogbah and Emmanuel Smoot. Sure, just because it happened then doesn't mean it will now; history tells us that the Jags could be busy the remainder of the offseason.

It's also worth pointing out that Jacksonville has $11 million in space (and can still free up a bit more), so a big move is certainly possible.

The Jaguars are the kind of team that never tip their hand, but nobody will bat an eye if they're paving the way for something bigger after releasing Sal Wormley.
