The Jacksonville Jaguars had lots of talent at wide receiver but needed to add depth in the offseason. That led them to give Jake Bobo a two-year tender worth $5.5 million. However, he was a restricted free agent, and the Seattle Seahawks didn't want to lose him, so they matched the Jags' offer.
With Bobo returning to Emerald City, Jacksonville chose to bolster its wide receiver corps in the NFL Draft, using a pair of picks in Round 6 to select CJ Williams and Josh Cameron.
The Jaguars turned out to be fine, as both Williams and Cameron have made a strong impression thus far. On the other hand, Bobo suffered a serious injury before the regular season, and the Hawks suddenly have a huge roster void at receiver.
The Seahawks will be without Jake Bobo for a while
The Seahawks lost Jake Bobo to an injury in a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans, and he was carted off the field. Head coach Mike Macdonald later told reporters that it was serious, noting that "our hearts go to Jake Bobo."
During his exchange with the media, Macdonald said that Bobo will miss significant time. It's hard to tell just how much it will be until he undergoes further tests. That said, the early forecast doesn't look great.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, and Rashid Shaheed remain in the mix. But with Bobo out of the picture, Emmanuel Henderson Jr., Tory Horton, and Montorie Foster Jr. are the next in line to replace him.
Of course, neither Bobo nor Seattle has control over injuries, and it's never pleasant to see any players go down with injuries. Having said that, the Jaguars should feel good about how things turned out when Seattle met their contract offer earlier this year.
Sure, there's a chance Bobo could have stayed healthy in Jacksonville. After all, he would have been in a whole different situation. What the Jags should feel good about was that they pivoted to CJ Williams and Josh Cameron once Bobo returned to Seattle.
The Jaguars have a pair of rising receivers in Josh Cameron and CJ Williams
The Jaguars must be thrilled about Josh Cameron and CJ Williams. After all, the hit rate in the sixth round is pretty low. Sure, kicker Cam Little and wide receiver Parker Washington were also drafted in Round 6, but they're the outliers, not the norm.
Circling back to Cameron and Williams, both of them are slated to make the initial 53-man roster. Not only that. They have done enough throughout the offseason and training camp to make you think that they'll earn some kind of role in 2026, even though they're part of a logjam at receiver.
It's unfortunate that the Seahawks just lost Jake Bobo for a while, but the Jaguars ended up coming out of the situation way better than they would have probably thought after missing out on Bobo.
