The Jacksonville Jaguars had a logjam at safety throughout the summer, and they needed to trim down the position ahead of roster cutdown day. That's why it's not particularly surprising to learn that they moved on from an undrafted rookie.
Not long after releasing special teams ace Daniel Thomas, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 broke the news that the Jags moved on from former Colorado safety Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig.
Why Cam'Ron had an uphill battle with the Jaguars
Coming out of Colorado, Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig had an uphill battle to stick around with the Jaguars in 2025. Leaving aside that the Jaguars had a surplus of options at safety, the former Buffalo lacked the size and athleticism to thrive at the NFL level.
Nevertheless, the team's brass took a flyer on him as an undrafted free agent, and it's easy to see why. As noted before, he didn't have great size or speed, but he's shown a knack for stopping the run. Moreover, he routinely showed leadership skills in college. Couple that with his competitive attitude, and the Birmingham, Alabama native had a shot, even if it was a slim one.
On a related note, former Colorado teammate and fellow safety Shilo Sanders was also waived ahead of cutdown day.

Why the Jaguars waived Cam'ron Silmon-Craig?
In the preseason, Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig played 92 defensive snaps, finishing with a subpar 44.6 Pro Football Focus overall grade. Simply put, he didn't make enough plays or show enough consistency to earn a roster spot.
But even if Silmon-Craig had played better, he was going to have trouble making the team. After all, the Jaguars also had Caleb Ransaw, Rayuan Lane, Antonio Johnson, Andrew Wingard, Darnell Savage, and Eric Murray.
Of the bunch, Murray and Savage were virtually locks to make the team. When the Jags released Thomas, they paved the way for Lane to stay. Johnson, Wingard, and Savage, on the other hand, competed for the starting job next to Murray.
When you add it all up, Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig was always on the outside looking in. If he clears waivers, maybe he can land in the practice squad, where he can continue working on his craft and have a chance to compete for a roster spot in 2026. For the time being, though, his stint with the Jaguars has come to an end.
