Two-way star Travis Hunter didn't have to wait to get his name called in the 2025 NFL draft, having gone to theJacksonville Jaguars with the second overall selection. However, his Colorado teammates weren't nearly as lucky.
While quarterback Shedeur Sanders had to wait until the fifth round to land with the Cleveland Browns, the draft came and went, and safety Shilo Sanders didn't get selected. The silver lining was that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers swooped him and made him a priority signing.
Unfortunately, Sanders's stint with the Bucs has come to an end, and he may need to join another team to keep his NFL career going. The Jags could be a possibility.
Why the Jaguars could claim Shilo Sanders off waivers
Shilo Sanders played six college seasons, so he had ample experience coming out of college. That said, his dearth of athleticism and high rate of missed tackles were among the reasons he went undrafted. Nevertheless, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave him a shot to earn the spot.
Ultimately, Sanders wasn't able to seize the opportunity and get the boot. The fact that he swung at another player in Week 3 of the preseason didn't help his case, but he seemed like a long shot to make the team even before the finale.

Now, Sanders is in search of a team, and the Jaguars may be a landing spot.

Shilo Sanders could be a candidate for the Jaguars practice squad
The Jags have a surplus at safety, with Eric Murray, Antonio Johnson, Darnell Savage, Daniel Thomas, Andrew Wingard, Caleb Ransaw, and Rayuan Lane. At first sight, they don't look like a destination for Shilo Sanders. However, Jacksonville won't keep everyone.
Johnson, Savage, Wingard, and Thomas could get the boot, and while the team's brass would like to bring one or them to the practice squad, there's no guarantee they'll clear waivers. And if the Jags lose them, Sanders would be a fallback option.
Couple that with the fact that Sanders' former teammate Travis Hunter is in Jacksonville, and there's a chance the two could be reunited. Heck, it wouldn't be shocking if the front office asks the reigning Heisman Trophy winner for his opinion about the rookie safety, and what he could potentially bring to the table.
This makes even more sense when you take into account that Jacksonville already signed former Colorado safety Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig as an undrafted free agent. Why not get the crew back together?
Granted, this potential reunion doesn't have great odds of taking place, but it shouldn't be ruled out either.
