The Jacksonville Jaguars managed to get an ugly win over the Houston Texans in Week 3, a much-needed victory that keeps them alive in the AFC South. It's also the much-desired vindication for their last meeting with the division rival, where Azeez Al-Shaair took out quarterback Trevor Lawrence with a dirty hit that left the entire league furious.

To put it mildly, it wasn't a great game for the Jaguars. The defense shined, as it has throughout the season so far, but the offense continued to struggle, especially with penalties. But when it mattered, the team came through, with Lawrence and the offense finally clicking when it mattered most, and the defense putting a stop to the Houston offense one last time before the clock ran out.

But while the box score wouldn't immediately make you think of total domination over the Texans, there is one Jaguar who did just that. Jourdan Lewis had another amazing day, cementing his status as a leader on this Jacksonville defense, and as one of their best offseason signings.

Jourdan Lewis is a rising star

Heading into Week 3, Lewis was ranked in the top 10 of all cornerbacks in the NFL. Originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, Lewis signed for a whopping three-year, $30 million contract with the Jaguars, and has been worth every penny. That was proven true once again against the Texans.

With 63 snaps, he had four solo tackles and one interception, and has already shown that he is not just one of the best defenders on this current roster, but one of the best in recent history.

So far this season, he has had multiple interceptions over the first three games, and he's the first Jaguar to do so since 2006. That stat may be a bit depressing for Jaguars fans, but at least Lewis is here making big plays now, right?

General manager James Gladstone was specifically brought in to help revitalize the Jaguars, and signing Lewis was nothing short of a stroke of genius. He was one of the best free agents the Jaguars could have signed, and his success this season is proving it.

Lewis has not only been performing well on his own, but he's been elevating the rest of the defense, too. The Cowboys made a huge mistake in letting him walk, but it's one Jaguars fans can be thankful for all season long.
