The Jacksonville Jaguars sit at 1–1 with a promising opportunity to contend for the AFC South. Sure, the Indianapolis Colts are 2-0, but the Jags have enough talent and a promising first-year head coach in Liam Coen to make noise in 2025.
However, according to Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report, their biggest issue so far has been an inconsistent passing game. As Gagnon explained:
"Lawrence has thrown three picks, and they've made a lot of their mistakes in critical moments. It won't be an easy problem to shake, considering their track record."Braa
While the passing game has been less than stellar, there are plenty of reasons to believe it will improve. For the Jaguars to contend for the AFC South and ultimately make a deep playoff run, Trevor Lawrence must play to his potential. He’s already shown the ability to perform at a high level with flashes of great quarterback play, but now the challenge is consistency.
To be a successful team, a winning team, it is important to win on all phases of the ball. In order to ensure a successful offense, teams need a strong rushing attack and a strong pass game. Here are three reasons why Jacksonville will fix this issue.
Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars should keep getting better
One reason for optimism is that this is a brand-new offense, and early-season growing pains are to be expected. As the year progresses, Trevor Lawrence’s confidence should grow, his timing with receivers should sharpen, and protection should settle in. It’s not uncommon for offenses to struggle early, and there’s no reason for the Jaguars to panic at this stage.
Trevor Lawrence has already proven he can be the kind of quarterback who wins football games. New head coach Liam Coen has a track record of improving quarterback efficiency, and Jacksonville’s play-calling and scheme have already shown dramatic improvement. While there have been some early bumps in the road, there is plenty of reason for Jaguars fans to be optimistic about where this offense is headed.

The Jaguars have plenty of offensive weapons
Another key reason for optimism is Jacksonville’s receiving corps. Brian Thomas Jr. was one of the most talented receivers in the NFL last season, and that hasn’t changed. The Monstars from Space Jam didn’t just swoop in and steal his ability. He’s still an elite playmaker capable of being a major part of this offense.
Patience is key with two of Jacksonville’s featured receivers. Brian Thomas Jr. will return to form, and rookie Travis Hunter’s role will continue to expand on both sides of the ball. For now, Hunter is still easing into the offense as a true threat, but his talent is undeniable. In time, he will make the kind of big plays that remind everyone why he was such a coveted prospect. Jaguars fans just need to stay patient. These receivers will become a driving force in the offense.
The Jaguars have a potent running game
Finally, one of the biggest factors in fixing the passing game will be the success of the run game. Whether it’s Travis Etienne, Bhayshlu Tuten, or LeQuint Allen, all of Jacksonville’s backs have delivered impactful moments this season. A steady ground attack will only create more opportunities through the air.
When the run game is clicking, defenses are forced to crowd the box. That opens up space in coverage and creates one-on-one opportunities for Jacksonville’s receivers. Right now, the Jaguars lead the league with an average of 169.5 rushing yards per game. While that number may dip as the season wears on, the efficiency and explosiveness of the passing attack should only improve. And with that improvement, Jacksonville has the potential to make a playoff push...Maybe even a deep run.
