There's no such thing as a boring moment in the NFL, and on the same day edge rusher T.J. Watt got a new deal, wide receiver Mike Williams announced his retirement. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis, who signed a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025, shared his thoughts on the subject matter.
In the aftermath of the news that Williams is hanging up the cleats. Lewis jokingly stated the veteran wideout had one rough day of training camp practice with Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh and chose to call it quits.
"Mike Williams had one day of Harbaugh's camp and said this it," Lewis posted on Twitter.

Having played for Harbaugh back at Michigan, Lewis knows just how tough the head coach can be. In fact, he posted his practice schedule with the Wolverines not long after his first post.

Again, Lewis is just having a bit of fun, and as of this writing, Williams hasn't shared his reasons for walking away.
A first-round pick in the 2017 draft, Williams spent nearly his whole career with the Bolts but signed with the New York Jets last year and was eventually traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers midseason. The former Clemson Tiger returned to Los Angeles back in March of 2025 but chose to retire just days after the Chargers began training camp.
In eight NFL seasons, Williams ended up appearing in 106 games with 67 starts and hauled in 330 receptions for 5,104 yards with 32 touchdowns.

How does the Mike Williams retirement news affect the Jaguars?
The Mike Williams retirement news doesn't really affect the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sure, they'll face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 11 of the 2025 campaign, but containing him wouldn't have been a priority if they had to face him.
In his career, Williams played Jacksonville four times and logged a combined six catches for 106 yards with two touchdowns. The last time he had to face off against them was in Week 3 of the 2022 season. In that game, he was limited to one reception for 15 yards. When the Jags played Los Angeles in the playoffs that year, he was inactive.
With Williams out of the mix, the Jaguars will need to focus on stopping third-year receiver Quinton Johnston and rookie Tre Harris, who was unsigned but inked his rookie deal shortly after his teammate's retirement. Working in their favor is that they have a well-rounded cornerback group matchups favorably against the Chargers' wide receiver corps.
Circling back to Mike Williams' decision to retire, he made the fight call if he no longer enjoys playing football, and Jourdan Lewis took advantage of the opportunity to make a lighthearted comment about his college head coach.
