Following the 2024 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars realized that if they wanted to put Trevor Lawrence in a position to succeed, they had to bolster his arsenal. Sure, they had budding star Brian Thomas Jr. in the fold, but No. 16 needed more weapons. For that reason, the Jags signed Dyami Brown to a one-year deal. So far, the fifth-year veteran has proven to be everything they bargained for and then some.

Brown made a strong impression in the offseason program, and his encouraging performance has carried over into training camp. In fact, he stepped up during Brian Thomas Jr.'s brief absence when he got sick, and the offense didn't skip a beat.

Jaguars OC Grant Udiski is impressed with Dyami Brown's preparation

Following Day 12 of training camp, offensive coordinator Grant Udinski met with the local media and praised Brown for his preparation, pointing out that it's not easy to line up at a different receiver spot.

"It's a testament to his work ethic and his preparation," Udinski responded when asked about Brown's preparedness (2:34 mark). "Because when you're running the same position, same alignment, same routes, every single day, and then minutes before practice, you're switched to a different position, it's complete different routes, different alignments, and you didn't have time to prepare."

Udinski continued, "That's a testament to his ability to prepare for something that's kind of unforeseen. So it really shows his mastery of the offense and his work to continue to try to take that next step in terms of mastering his role, but the entire offense."

A third-round pick by the Washington Commanders in 2021, Brown was underwhelming in his first three NFL seasons. However, he put it all together late in 2024 and became a key cog on offense during his team's playoff run. At the time, offensive coordinator Kliff Kinsbury cited his change in his approach and attitude as the reason for his career renaissance.

But despite Brown's strong finish to 2024, there were reservations about whether he could build off of it. The Jaguars believe that it will carry over into next season. They said as much after signing him. It's also worth noting that the former North Carolina Tar Heel will be incentivized to put on another banner season when you take into account that he's set to become a free agent next year. He should have no trouble pulling it off.

Leaving aside that Brown has had a strong showing the past few months, he'll be playing with Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter. Sure, he may not get as many targets as he would like, but he'll find more favorable matchups because teams will also need to account for his teammates.

Based on how things have played out, the Jaguars have turned out to be a great fit for Dyami Brown, and both parties will benefit if he has another strong season. He's been putting in the work to make it happen.
