The Jacksonville Jaguars could lose offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile to head-coaching jobs. But whether they lose one (or both), the team's brass is bringing in reinforcements.
Just a few days after hiring secondary coach Mathiew Araujo to replace Ron Milus, Liam Coen is bringing in a familiar face from his stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024.
The Jaguars are hiring Brian Picucci as their run game coordinator
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Jags hired Buccaneers assistant Brian Picucci as their run game coordinator, adding that the Tampa Bay offense ranked third in total yards, fourth in points scored, and fourth in rushing in 2024, the same year Liam Coen was their offensive coordinator.
Picucci was the assistant offensive line coach in 2024 and was promoted to offensive line coach last year. Coen wanted to bring him to Jacksonville in 2025, but the Bucs blocked the move. One year later, he gets his guy, albeit in a different role.
Before landing in Tampa, Picucci coached at Kentucky, where he coached alongside Coen, so it's clear the two work well. But wait, there's more! Picucci was a coach at UMass when Coen was their quarterback back in the mid 2000s.
Brian Picucci will work with Liam Coen to improve the Jaguars offense
It's great to see that Brian Picucci left such a positive impression on Liam Coen back at UMass. That he's brought him along for his coaching career in the NFL. Now in Jacksonville, the two will try to get even more from one of the best offenses last year.
When Coen oversaw the Buccaneers' offense in 2024, he turned one of the worst running games in the whole league the season prior to one of the best. Last year, the Jacksonville rushing attack wasn't necessarily bad, but it wasn't among the best either, ranking 20th in rushing yards and 27th in yards per carry. With Picucci in the mix, that could change in 2026.
Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen should be among the biggest beneficiaries of the Picucci hire. That said, the offensive line should also get a boost. After all, coaching the trenches is his forte, so he could work alongside Shaun Sarrett to get the most out of his units.
You have probably heard that you shouldn't have too many cooks in the kitchen, but when they shared the vision and have previously achieved great things together, it makes sense for Liam Coen to add an associate of his to an already loaded Jaguars staff.
