When it comes to Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, there are as many takes as there are talking heads (myself included, I suppose). When he was drafted No.1 overall back in 2021, Jaguars fans were ready for the wins to start rolling in. Clearly, that hasn't happened, though we'll forgive him for that first year—with Urban Meyer, he gets a mulligan.
Since then? Two of his last three seasons have been winning seasons, and it can be argued that he's been the only constant during that time (though, to be fair, people might be discounting running back Travis Etienne Jr. and defensive end Josh Hines-Allen). With this season shaping up to be a winning season (I know, I know...), that means that three of his four seasons—again, the first one is a do-over—have been winning seasons.
But does that mean No. 16 is "the guy?" Does it even mean he's good? Pro Football Focus added their own thoughts.
Pro Football Focus places Trevor Lawrence at No. 18 on its 2025 QB rankings
While Lawrence had certainly not gotten a ton of help from an injury-depleted and drop-prone receiving room, his numbers have still been mediocre at best, so Pro Football Focus placing him at No. 18 doesn't feel quite so bad. Some fans will argue he deserves higher, and I don't doubt there are many who would put him even lower, but let's take a step back and at least pretend to be unbiased.
Lawrence currently sits at No. 14 in passing yards on the year. Not bad, not great, either. His 11 interceptions are third-worst, with only Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Las Vegas' Geno Smith having more (13 each).
Sure, the former Clemson Tiger has been sacked fifth-most—which is kind of surprising after the offensive line's solid start through the first few games—but some of those sacks can be chalked up to bad pocket presence or holding on to the ball too long. He's 20th in touchdowns thrown and doesn't even hit 60 percent in completion percentage.
However, he's also got five rushing touchdowns, which ties him with Travis Etienne Jr. for 16th overall—among all players, not just quarterbacks. He's run for over 200 yards, directly resulting in 23 rushing first downs. When he opens up the field with his legs, the Jaguars are simply a better team.

Final thoughts
My take? No. 16 is a frustrating player to watch. He's either playing at a top-3 level at the position, or bottom-3, and there's no in between. Dan Orlovsky probably said it best: "Trevor Lawrence has throws on tape that look like he is the best player at the position in football...Then he has 3-4 throws a game that he looks like it’s a first start...Roller coaster ride. If he ever gains consistency…"

Overall, I don't think No. 18 on PFF's list is too bad of placement. Lawrence has shown he can lead the team and win games, but he's also shown a startling lack of consistency. If he ever figures out a way to eliminate those head-scratching plays, then watch out.
