The Jacksonville Jaguars will need Trevor Lawrence to play at a high level in 2025 if they want to compete in the AFC South. However, he'll first need to get back to full strength after suffering a shoulder injury last year. The good news is that No. 16 is making strides in his recovery and should be 100 percent at some point in the offseason.
Lawrence met with the media during the team's voluntary offseason workouts and said that he feels great, noting that it's great not to wear a shoulder brace.
"Oh, feels great. It feels great being able, unrestricted, hold Shae [his daughter], and help out around the house and obviously the football side, like workout and throw," Lawrence said. "I'm able to do all that now, and I'm getting there, which feels really good."
Later in the exchange, the fifth-year quarterback shared details about his recovery, noting that he's making progress, but there's no clear deadline to be 100 percent.
"There's not really a set deadline on it, just because we don't play a game till this fall. Obviously, I'm going to be ready sooner than that. But I'm very optimistic, I'll be perfectly good for the season. But as far as just right now, I think just kind of pacing ourselves as OTAs go and working myself up to where I'm in shape, as far as throwing."
Lawrence continued, "I guess the amount of throws might be a little lighter to start and work our way up, just until I get really fully back. But I imagine that, and then maybe just some handoff stuff will be a little limited. But besides that, I think that lasts long. I'm throwing, and obviously I'm kind of progressing and working my way up further distance more throws, just trying to be smart and not just jump off the into the deep end right away, just trying to work up to."
Sure, Lawrence still has ways to go, but based on his comments, it sounds like he's trending in the right direction. No. 16 originally suffered a shoulder sprain in Week 9 of the 2024 season. He tried to play through the injury but was severely hampered. He was ultimately shut down when he suffered a concussion against the Houston Texans
Below is his full exchange with the press corps. His comments about his recovery start at around the 27:25 mark.

Trevor Lawrence has unfinished business with the Jaguars
Before getting hurt in 2024, Trevor Lawrence wasn't playing particularly well. Some of that had to do with carrying the team on his shoulder and inadequate coaching. But regardless of the reason, he'll need to improve if he wants to shut down questions about his viability as a franchise quarterback.
Already, the former Clemson Tiger has proven that he can play at a high level. However, he hasn't been able to do it on a consistent basis. This has led to chatter about him being overpaid or overrated. Of course, Lawrence doesn't play the game to silence his critics, but he'll need to do it if the Jaguars want to have any hopes of making a playoff run in 2025. They're certainly doing their part.
Aside from making upgrades to the offensive line and the wide receiver corps, Lawrence is getting help from Liam Coen to fix his footwork. Now, he needs to do him and get the most out of the situation.
Progressing in his recovery is most definitely a step in the right direction.
