Jaguars dubbed a Shedeur Sanders trade destination (but it makes little sense)

• That doesn't make sense.

While Trevor Lawrence hit his stride in the offseason program, the depth behind him left much to be desired. Things didn't get much better in the preseason. This prompted the Jacksonville Jaguars to trade for Quinn Ewers from the Miami Dolphins.

Ewers was inactive the first two weeks of the regular season, but that was because he was still getting acquainted with head coach Liam Coen's scheme. He's served as the primary backup behind Lawrence the past three games, though, so it looks like the team's brass feels good about where he stands.

But despite their investment in Ewers, the Jags were recently dubbed a trade destination for Shedeur Sanders.

The Jaguars are seen as a trade destination for Sheddeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders had represented himself when he entered the NFL but has since hired Adie von Gontard to serve as his agent. This has turned heads because von Gontard helped Marvin Harrison Jr. engineer the trade that sent him to the Houston Texans.

The implication is that Sanders may want to leave the Cleveland Browns via trade since Deshaun Watson is firmly entrenched as the starter and doesn't have a clear path to see the football field.

Because von Gontard also represents Travis Hunter, John Breech of CBS Sports thinks that Jacksonville could be a landing spot for Sanders. Here's the skinny.

"This would reunite Sanders with his old buddy, Travis Hunter," Breech wrote. "The backup QB spot in Jacksonville seems pretty fluid. The Jags cut Nick Mullens in training camp for Quinn Ewers in late August. If Liam Coen feels like Sander is an upgrade from Ewers, the Jags could potentially show some interest."

Sanders was seen as a potential first-round pick in the 2025 draft but ended up sliding into the fifth. One potential reason was that he wanted to start wherever he landed. In fact, the Baltimore Ravens had set their sights on him because he would be the ideal backup behind Lamar Jackson. However, the former Colorado Buffalo let them know that he didn't want to be their second-stringer.

In Cleveland, Sanders has appeared in nine games with seven starts, completing 56.8 percent of his throws for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

There's no doubt that Sanders has talent and could thrive under the right circumstances. That said, Jacksonville doesn't make sense as a trade destination for him.

The Jaguars don't make sense as a trade destination for Shedeur Sanders

For starters, the Jags are set at quarterback. Trevor Lawrence is firmly entrenched as the starter, and Quinn Ewers gives them a backup with high upside. Like Sanders, Ewers was a productive signal-caller in college and could hold the fort in case Lawrence has to miss a few games. Nick Mullens is also in the mix. Although the Jags released him on cutdown day, he was signed to their practice squad and could be promoted to the active roster if needed.

But beyond the obvious, there's another reason why Jacksonville wouldn't trade for Sanders: Deion Sanders. Already, the Colorado head coach complains that he doesn't have a say in Travis Hunter's development. His whining would only get louder if his son were to land in Duval.

Simply put, the Jaguars have no need for reinforcements at quarterback or any of Deion Sanders' nonsense. When you add it all up, they're not a viable landing spot for Shedeur Sanders.
