The Jacksonville Jaguars had trouble putting away the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5 but ultimately prevailed, winning 19-17 thanks to Cam Little's walk-off field goal. One of the biggest storylines of the game was that defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton served as the emergency long snapper after Ross Matiscik left the game.
While Hamilton did an admirable job of filling in for Matiscik, the Jags will reportedly add a proper replacement for the Week 6 game against the Houston Texans.
The Jaguars are adding a long snapper to replace Ross Matiscik vs. the Texans
Liam Coen met with reporters one day after the not-pretty but gritty win over Philadelphia. He stated that the team will bring in a long snapper to London to play against the Texans.
As of this writing, it's unknown just how much time Ross Matiscik will win. If it's just a few games, Jacksonville can simply add a long snapper to the practice squad. But if it's more than that, the Jags will need to make room for him on the 53-man roster.
Then again, freeing up a roster spot to add a long snapper won't be an issue if Matisick is expected to miss substantial time, as the team can simply put him on the Injured Reserve list.
Matisick has been Jacksonville's long snapper since 2020 when he landed in Duval as a free agent. He played 106 consecutive games, earning three Pro Bowl designations and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

Why the Jaguars won't keep DaVon Hamilton as the long snapper
Leaving aside that the Jaguars need DaVon Hamilton wreaking havoc at defensive tackle, he did an admirable job filling in for Ross Matiscik, but he had a few less-than-ideal snaps. The one that stands out the most is the one that led to Cam Little's missed extra point.
Punter/holder Logan Cooke had to work overtime to ensure he placed the football properly throughout the game after Hamilton sailed a couple snaps. That probably won't happen with a proper long snapper.
The Jaguars managed to overcome injuries to beat the Eagles. To ensure they'll have a fighting chance against a Houston Texans team that's trying to remain in the AFC South race, they must minimize the margin for error. Bringing in a long snapper will allow them to do just that.
