One of the biggest questions surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars just before cutdown day was who would be WR5. After all, Dyami Brown, Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, and Parker Washington were locks to make the team. However, it was uncertain whom the last spot would go to. Veteran Trenton Irwin seemingly had the edge, but Austin Trammell ultimately go the nod.

Tremell's stay on the roster was short-live, though, as the Jags released him after acquiring Tim Patrick from the Detroit Lions. Fast foward to Week 4 of the regular season and the trade suddenly has become paramount in light of Dyami Brown's shoulder injury.

The Jaguars value Tim Patrick's size and versatility

Heading into the Week 4 game against the San Francisco 49ers, offensive coordinator Grant Udinski met with the local media and talked about Tim Patrick, pointing out that his versatility comes in handy in both the run and pass game.

"A ton of value, not only can he play a bunch of different spots, [He's] entally able to handle the different receiver positions. can line up inside outside," Udinski said. "But physically, he can do a bunch of different things. you see him in the run game, finishing blocks in the pass game, chip in and then protecting getting out on routes, great run after the catch that you guys saw on Sunday."

Udinski continued, "So [he] can get down the field and cut out cut all those different things, provides a bunch of versatility for a guy in his position where really like you said he's playing all those spots across the entire field."

As Udinksi noted, Patrick gives the coaching staff ample flexibility. Aside from being able to line up anywhere across the line of scrimmage, he's a willing blocker. If that wasn't enough his 6-foot-5 frame gives Trevor Lawrence a massive target on third downs and in the red zone.

Tim Patrick could be the X-Factor for the Jaguars if Dyami Brown sits out Week 4

An undrafted free agent in 2018, Tim Patrick signed with the Denver Broncos and quickly became a mainstay of their offense. However, he suffered season-ending injuries in both 2022 and 2023 and was released last year. The San Diego, California native quicly latched onto the Detroit Lions, where he enjoyed a career revival, hauling in 33 receptions for 394 yards with three touchdowns.

Now with the Jags, Patrick, along with Parker Washington could fill in for Dyami Brown if he doesn't suit up agains the San Francisco 49ers. Brown suffered a shoulder injury in the win over the Houston Texans but his availability for Week 4 is in question.

Now, it's not a given that Dyami Brown will miss the 49ers game, but if he does, you can bet that Tim Patrick will be ready to step in his place.
