And there you go! It took less than a day for the Jacksonville Jaguars to make a move after announing their initial 53-man roster.

The Jags included five receivers on the 53-man roster but that changed when they got a deal done with the Detroit Lions.

The Jaguars are trading for Tim Patrick for Round 6 draft pick

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media broke the news that the Detroit Lions were trading wide receiver Tim Patrick to the Jacksonville Jaguars. They will need to release a player to make room for him, but they haven't announced a move yet, as of this writing.

Mark Long of the Associated Press later reported that the Jags were sending Detroit a sixth-round selection in 2026 in return for the veteran wideout.

From a Jaguars perspective, this was a good deal. They only had one sixth-round selection in 2026, and it wasn't even their original. They acquired the one they sent to the Lions when they traded Roy Robertson-Harris to the Seattle Seahawks.

However, Jacksonville still has two fifth-round picks and fourth in Round 7, so it won't hurt much to give up that sixth, especially when it was in exchange for wide receiver help.

What are the Jaguars getting in Tim Patrick?

It was evident since the Jags released Joshua Cephus and later made inquiries about Devaughn Vele that they weren't pleased with the depth they had at receiver. Moreover, it was a sign that they could be looking for ways to acquire help. The Tim Patrick trade accomplished just that.

Jacksonville probably set its sights on Patrick and didn't want to lose the risk of losing him on the waiver wire, so it sent a Day 3 pick to the Lions to get a deal done. It's worth noting that the former Utah Ute seemed like a logical fallback after missing out on Vele due to his 6'5" frame.

Like Vele, Patrick offers a massive target at receiver. On top of that, he managed to stay healthy in 2025, hauling in 33 receptions for 394 yards with three touchdwons after missing the prior two seasons with injuries.

After going undrafted in 2017, Patrick spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers before latching onto the Denver Broncos later that year. He tallied 51 recepetions for 742 yards with six touchdowns in 2020 and followed that up with 53 catches for 734 yards with five touchdwons. But as noted before, season-ending injuries in consecutive years held him back.

The Broncos released Patrick before the 2024 season, and that's when he signed with the LIons.

Now, Tim Patrick joins a group that includes Travis Hunter, Austin Trammell, Dyami Brown, Brian Thomas Jr., and Parker Washington. On the other hand, the Jaguars should be hyped up that they at last
