Even though Anton Harrison mostly played left tackle in college, the Jacksonville Jaguars moved him to the right side after drafting him 23rd overall in 2023. He could be moving back to his natural position three years later.
While Cole Van Lanen recovers from a knee injury he suffered in 2025, Harrison has been taking first-team reps at left tackle and has been dominant. Coupled with head coach Liam Coen's latest remarks, Jacksonville could be opening the door to make him Trevor Lawrence's blindside protector next season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars could move Anton Harrison to left tackle
Liam Coen met with the local media on Day 5 of training camp. He said he was pleased with Anton Harrison's work at left tackle, noting that the Jaguars are seeing what works and what doesn't.
"I think he's done a nice job. I mean, it's part of what we've done, moving those guys around and seeing what sticks. And if that ends up sticking, hopefully that's a good thing for us," Coen told reporters (1:53 mark). "And I think he's put together five good practices so far that you're pleased with seeing the consistency."
Coen continued, "That's something that we're continuously challenging, not just Anton, but that entire unit and group is just consistency, consistent effort, consistent technique, consistent finish. But I've been pleased with them just handling it pretty seamlessly so far."
When asked about Harrison taking reps at left tackle, vice president of football operations Tony Boselli recently said that the Jaguars just wanted to prepare for injuries. But based on Coen's remarks, Jacksonville may be laying the groundwork to keep him there long-term, and understandably so.
Harrison is coming off his best season at right tackle, but if he could reach even greater heights as the blindside protection, the team's brass shouldn't hesitate to have him switch sides.
Moving Anton Harrison to LT would have huge ramifications for the Jaguars
It's not a given that Anton Harrison will move to left tackle, but it looks like there's a realistic chance it will happen. If it does, either Cole Van Lanen or Walker Little could play right tackle. Van Lanen has previously lined up there, while Little competed with Jawaan Taylor for the starting job at right tackle in 2022, so he has experience there. On the other hand, the potential move could have big salary cap repercussions.
Left tackles generally earn more money than their right tackles. Anton Harrison is already eligible for an extension, but his contract runs through 2027, so the Jags can focus on re-signing other players in 2026 and give him a new deal by then.
This means that if Harrison switches sides and thrives in 2026, he could get a substantial pay bump. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, because if the team's brass believes he's their best hog molly, they won't mind giving him an extension that reflects that.
Of course, Anton Harrison could stay at right tackle, but he will most definitely give the Jaguars something to think about if he continues to have success at left tackle.
