Under general manager James Gladstone, the Jacksonville Jaguars haven't hesitated to re-sign their homegrown talent. Just before free agency, they brought back cornerback Montaric Brown. They then took care of long snapper Ross Matiscik and defensive end Travon Walker. More recently, they gave tight end Brenton Strange a new three-year deal that's much better than originally reported. Wide receiver Parker Washington could be next.

Washington is coming off a banner season, but he's flashed playmaking prowess dating back to his rookie campaign. The Sugar Land, Texas native is now entering a contract year, and locking him up long-term is without a doubt one of the team's top priorities. One beat writer believes it's a matter of time before they strike a deal and even dropped a timeline to get it done.

The Jaguars could extend Parker Washington by training camp

Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union appeared on 1010 XL and said that he expects the Jaguars to extend Parker Washington soon, adding that they could strike a deal when they report to training camp.

"On Washington, and I do think it will happen before they report to training camp," O'Halloran told 1010 host Mike Dempsey (5:15 mark). "I could, I could see him signing when he reports on the 28th of July. Because right now it's a very small sample size, but their track record, it is urgency. They did Travvon Walker early."

A sixth-round pick in 2023, Washington spent his first two seasons behind Christian Kirk but flashed whenever he was thrust into action. Once Jacksonville traded Kirk to the rival Houston Texans, he earned a featured role and made the most out of it, hauling in 58 receptions for 807 yards with five touchdowns.

As good as Parker Washington looked in 2025, though, he could put up even better numbers next season. Head coach Liam Coen has made it clear the former Penn State Nittany Lion will run more vertical routes. That should lead to an uptick in production, which is precisely why it makes sense for the Jaguars to lock him up as soon as they can.

How much are the Jaguars willing to pay Parker Washington?

Free agency shouldn't be ruled out. There's always a chance Parker Washington will walk next year, but signs point toward the Jaguars extending him sooner rather than later. The question is what the deal could look like.

Early in the offseason, Washington was projected to get a deal that would pay him $16 million per year. After fellow receivers Jayden Reed and Christian Watson got extensions, the amount may have gone up, but it's hard to tell just how much.

After the Reed deal, something along the lines of $18 million per year makes sense for Washington. However, some estimates project him to get as much as $20 million or even $22 million. It may not come to that, and Jacksonville must draw a line at some point. However, locking the fourth-year receiver long-term should be a top priority.

The truth is that it may not matter when the Jaguars extend Parker Washington. Then again, taking care of business before training camp will prevent it from becoming a storyline, or worse, a distraction in the regular season.
