When the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Dyami Brown to a one-year deal in 2025, they did it because they believed he could build off of his strong finish to his last season with the Washington Commanders. However, that didn't turn out to be the case.
Brown got off to a promising start to the regular season, hauling in eight receptions for 109 yards with a touchdown to start the season. However, he faded down the stretch. And by the end of 2025, he was an afterthought on the Jacksonville offense.
Following his unremarkable stint with the Jags, Brown is back with the team that drafted him in 2021.
Dyami Brown returns to the Commanders after the Jaguars let him walk
Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Dyami Brown got a one-year deal worth up to $3 million from Washington. Last year, he got a one-year deal worth $10 million with the Jags, so you could make the case that he got a pay cut to return to Washington.
With the Jags, Brown ended up appearing in 14 games with six starts, hauling in 20 receptions for 227 yards with one touchdowns on 37 targets.
All things considered, it's not surprising to see Brown return to Washington. After all, he was able to put it all together when Jaydan Daniels was his quarterback in 2024. Now, the two will be reunited.
A third-round pick, Brown had just 29 receptions for 476 yards with three touchdowns in his first three seasons with the Commanders. However, he had a surge mid-2024, becoming an integral piece of the Washington offense during the playoffs.
Dyami Brown became expendable with the Jaguars
For a brief moment, it looked like Dyami Brown could become a game-changer opposite Brian Thomas Jr. After all, he made a strong impression in the offseason workouts. But somewhere along the way, his performance went off the rails. At least, there's a silver lining.
If Brown hadn't underperformed, the Jaguars might not have considered trading for Jakobi Meyers at the 2025 deadline. At the time, they needed help at receiver because Travis Hunter suffered a season-ending injury, while Brown and Brian Thomas Jr. struggled with inconsistency.
Once Meyers arrived in Jacksonville, Brown's fate appeared to be sealed. Heck, he was a healthy scratch a few times late in the season, and for the playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.
To nobody's surprise, the Jags let Brown walk in free agency. Even without him, they're stacked at receiver with Thomas, Hunter, Meyers, and Jakobi Meyers in the mix.
For his part, Dyami Brown gets a pay cut to return to the Commanders and prove that his stint in Jacksonville was nothing more than a speed bump.
