Jaguars fans shouldn't ignore this veteran's stunning rise ahead of OTAs

When the Jacksonville Jaguars cut ties with wide receiver Christian Kirk in 2025, they knew that Parker Washington was more than capable of stepping in his place. What they probably didn't expect was to see the former Penn State Nittany Lion break out and lead the team in receiving yards last season.

Now, Washington is entering his fourth season in Duval and just received a distinction that is kind of deserved but also undersells just how good he is.

The Jaguars have a well-kept secret in Parker Washington

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report drew up a list of each NFL team's best-kept secret ahead of Organized Team Activities. He chose Parker Washington for the Jaguars, pointing out that he probably doesn't get nearly as much attention as Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, or Travis Hunter but has shown he can come through.

"Parker Washington isn't the first name that will come up when discussing the Jacksonville Jaguars' wide receivers," Sobleksi wrote. "He probably won't even be the second or third mentioned. Even so, his performance over the second half of the 2025 campaign portends a much bigger and dynamic role."

Later in his article, Sobleski argues that Washington should see an uptick in playing time after reeling in 26 passes for 454 yards with three touchdowns in four games to end the year. The 2023 sixth-round pick ended up hauling in a team-best 58 receptions for 847 yards with five touchdowns. Only running back Travis Etienne reached the end zone more times for the Jags in 2025.

The truth is that Washington's breakout shouldn't come as a surprise. He barely got playing time early in his career precisely because Jacksonville had Christian Kirk in the mix, and both of them mainly lined up in the slot.

But whenever Washington filled in for Kirk, he made the most out of his playing time. Then, Kirk was traded, and Washington routinely got the spotlight during the offseason program because of how good he looked. That should have hinted at his ascension.

Now, Washington is entering a contract year. Not surprisingly, the Jaguars are making an effort to keep him around despite the fact that they're stacked at receivers. This goes on to show just how much they value him. It's also worth noting that the faster the team's brass extends the Sugar Land, Texas native, the better, as the longer they wait,

The Jaguars will continue to lean on Parker Washington in 2026

There's no doubt that Parker Washington will be better in 2026, especially when you take into account that the current coaching staff found out how to best use him last year. Under Doug Pederson, he mostly played inside, but Liam Coen had him line up in the boundaries more often.

This, in turn, allowed Jakobi Meyers to operate in the middle. With Brian Thomas Jr. drawing coverage away on the opposite side of the field, Washington should get plenty of favorable matchups.

Even then, Washington probably won't reach the 1,000-yard mark. But that may not matter as long as he comes up clutch when the Jags need him. And that's the thing, he may be their best-kept secret, but they sure know just how good he is.

It's probably a matter of time before the rest of the league finds out.
