When the Jacksonville Jaguars were building the roster earlier this year, they probably didn't expect big things from cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, who spent his rookie season on the practice squad. However, he's forced himself into their plans.
Muhammad was one of the team's standouts in the offseason program and has picked up where he left off in training camp. He had already increased his odds of making the team next season, and his bid has only grown stronger ahead of training camp.
Jabbar Muhammad keeps making noise at Jaguars training camp
Juston W. Lewis of The Florida Times Union wrote that Jabbar Muhammad made several plays in one-on-one drills on Day 9 of training camp, including a pass deflection on tight end Tanner Koziol. Just a few days earlier, the sophomore cornerback got feisty with wide receiver Parker Washington in practice. That's the kind of mindset the Jaguars love to see in their players.
Granted, Muhammad hasn't stood out nearly as much as he did at Organized Team Activities. Nevertheless, he's still trending in the right direction.
After going undrafted in 2025, the former Oregon Duck signed with the Jags. He didn't make the 53-man roster and instead landed on the practice squad. There, he made the most out of his chances to hone his skills. His work has paid massive dividends.
Muhammad, along with sophomore linebacker Branson Combs, was one of the most improved players from last year, making plays in nearly every practice of the offseason program. Now, he's in a favorable position to make the 53-man roster.
Jabbar Muhammad will need to clear another hurdle to make the Jaguars roster
Before the offseason program, it seemed like Jabbar Muhammad was going to need to beat Christian Braswell for a roster spot. However, Braswell missed several practices to start training camp. That cleared the path for Muhammad to get ahead of him. That said, he'll probably need to stand out in the preseason to make the team.
Already, four cornerback spots appeared to be earmarked. Jourdan Lewis, Travis Hunter, Jarrian Jones, and Montaric Brown are all locks to make the team. Apart from Muhammad and Braswell, undrafted rookies Devon Marshall and Preston Hodge are also trying to make the team, but Muhammad appears to have the lead heading into the preseason.
Many things could happen, and there's a chance Jabbar Muhammad could be left out of the roster. However, he's done enough to make you think that he'll ultimately get the nod.
