After coming up short of expectations the year prior, Trevor Lawrence needed to prove that he was the long-term answer at quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025. He rose to the challenge and went on to play like a top-10 quarterback.

Now, Lawrence is looking to build off his 2025 success. The fact that he's entering his second season under Liam Coen should most definitely help him pull it off. Based on his performance at Organized Team Activities, he's off to a great start.

Trevor Lawrence has been a standout at Jaguars minicamp

John Shipley of Sports Illustrated shared his observations from Day 3 of mandatory minicamp. He wrote that Trevor Lawrence has made a strong impression, pointing out that he's been accurate, especially when he's taken deep shots.

"Trevor Lawrence has been expected to take a big leap in his second season under Liam Coen from the start of the offseason, and so far, he has done exactly that," Shipley wrote. "He has done a good job in terms of accuracy all offseason, and Thursday was another example as he fired several accurate passes in the red zone and downfield. Having covered each offseason program of Lawrence's career, this has easily been one of his best."

Lawrence has never lacked the arm strength to dial up deep shots with pinpoint accuracy. The issue is that he hasn't truly had anyone to throw to until now, with both Parker Washington and Brian Thomas expected to get deep often next season.

For his part, Liam Coen told the local media that he's pleased with Lawrence's performance at minicamp, stating that the sixth-year quarterback has done a good job taking shots downfield.

"I don't know how many picks he actually threw, but I gotta believe it was under five throughout all OTAs and minicamp," Coen responded when asked what he's seen from Lawrence (2:31 mark). "So I think while trying to challenge himself and our receivers more with down-the-field passing, challenging him to try new things of concepts and fit some play, fit some throws into maybe windows you would otherwise take a check down in."

Coen continued, "While balancing that, I thought it did a really nice job taking care of the football, running the whole operation, managing the protections, and some of the concepts on the field. Yeah, I'm pleased with Trevor."

Trevor Lawrence has what he needs to turn the Jaguars into a contender

Based on the early results, it looks like he's making the most of his second season under Liam Coen. His slow start to 2025 partly stemmed from the fact that it was the most complex scheme he had to learn in his football career. It's also worth noting that, unlike past years, No. 16 isn't rehabbing injuries.

Last offseason, Lawrence was recovering from a shoulder sprain he suffered at the midpoint of 2024. Similarly, he had to spend the 2024 offseason recovering from ankle, knee and shoulder injuries he sustained the prior year. Another thing working in the former Clemson Tiger's favor is that he's no longer tweaking his footwork like he did last year.

When you add it all up, it's easy to picture Trevor Lawrence taking his game to the next level and taking the Jaguars to promise land.
