The Jacksonville Jaguars raised eyebrows when they included Trevor Lawrence on their initial injury report against the New York Jets. This came as a shock because the fifth-year quarterback didn't get hurt in the win over the Indianapolis Colts. On top of that, he seemingly didn't have any issues in practice.
The good news is that Lawrence's appearance on the injury report was mostly a cautionary measure. The following day, he practiced without restrictions, the same on Friday. Of course, there's always a chance for setback, but that doesn't appear to be the case with No. 16.
Trevor Lawrence will start for the Jaguars vs. the NY Jets
Every time your starting quarterback gets hurt or appears on the injury report, he'll get plenty of attention. Heck, the Jags' opponent in Week 15, the New York Jets, will have to roll with third-stringer Brady Cook, as Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields are dealing with injuries.
Circling back to Trevor Lawrence, he's dealt with a myriad of ailments each of the past two years. The last thing the Jaguars want is to see their season derailed because he got injured (again). Fortunately, the former Clemson Tiger is as healthy as he can be at this point in the season.
Grade the pitch: The Jags trade Travon Walker to the Eagles to reload on draft picks
Trevor Lawrence's cameo on the Jaguars injury report wasn't a reason for concern
Liam Coen met with the local media the Friday before the Jets game. The subject of Trevor Lawrence's knee injury came up, and the first-year head coach said it was nothing to worry about: "Nothing really, he's fine."
Later in the exchange, Coen said that it's good to be relatively healthy at this point of the season, noting that having everyone around brews competition.
"It's great to get as much of your full team out there as we can have," Coen told the press corps. "It makes Mamba a little bit more exciting as well. Just because it's you're able to get more guys reps and, you know, get the tempo of practice going a little bit. So it's been great to have a little bit more of a fuller unit, I guess you could say, and it's continuously creating competition within our own building, right?"
Coen continued, "You're competing each week against your opponent, but we got to continue to compete for a jersey and a helmet on Sundays, and that's what you're ultimately looking for within your team."
The only Jaguars who are listed as questionable for the Jets game are wide receiver Parker Washington and left tackle Walker Little. Both of them sat out the win over the Colts, and the coaching staff could easily hold them out again in Week 15. That's just how healthy the team is right now.
