After a midseason funk, the Jacksonville Jaguars are riding a hot streak. They've won four games in a row and are making a strong playoff push. While Liam Coen deserves plenty of credit for keeping the Jags focused, Trevor Lawrence has also played a huge role in the team's recent surge.

After the BYE, Lawrence's play has been reminiscent of his strong end to the 2022 season. That year, he helped Jacksonville reach the playoffs and win the AFC South title. One stat, in particular, shows just how improved he's been.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is showing improvement in deep passes

Dan Griffis of Action News Jax put together a graph that shows Trevor Lawrence's improvement in deep passes. From Weeks 1 to 9, No. 16's completion rate in long passes was 25.8 percent (ranked 30th). From Week 10 on, it's been 45.5 percent, good for eighth in the league.

Similarly, the Jags have attempted more passes in the same span. From Week 1 to 9, they had 31 attempts (fifth). The past five weeks, they had 22 (second). The fact that Lawrence has improved in that area has most definitely incentivized the coaching staff to dial up more deep shots.

Trevor Lawrence has put in the work to improve during the Jaguars' hot streak

Heading into Week 15, Liam Coen met with the local media. He acknowledged that Trevor Lawrence has improved, noting that he's been putting in the work in practice.

"I think he definitely has a great understanding throughout the week of the plan," Coen said. "He's worked very hard at going through, I think, some of the reads versus maybe different looks, or what we are expecting, versus maybe what could occur. And going through that with Spence [Whipple] and Grant [Udinski] a lot, and just throwing. He's been throwing it well; he threw it really well in practice. I know practice doesn't always carry over for what reasons."

Coen continued, "You try not to overanalyze it too much. But like, when we were soaking the ball up pretty good on Thursday, he was spinning it really good. And he's been throwing it good, I think, especially the last four weeks. As you mentioned, it's not anything necessarily that's changed, like about anything that we've done with him, or he's, I think he's just starting to feel more and more comfortable within the system and within the guys that he's playing with."

Later in his exchange with reporters, Coen credited Lawrence for the team's improvement in deep balls. Below is his full media availability session. His remarks about the fifth-year quarterback start at the 2:30 mark.

Keep in mind that it's not just Coen or the local beat who's watching Lawrence play better in recent weeks. The national media has also taken notice of his improved performance. In fact, the former Clemson Tiger was the highest-graded quarterback in Pro Football Network's latest ranking.

Throughout the season, the Jaguars showed confidence in Trevor Lawrence in spite of his slow start. That trust is paying off, as he's hitting his stride at just the perfect time of the year.
