The Jacksonville Jaguars could upgrade their depth behind Trevor Lawrence. The free-agent market doesn't offer any enticing options, but a few quarterbacks could be available via trade. In fact, another option may have just emerged: Several teams are reaching out to the Cleveland Browns to inquire about sophomore Shedeur Sanders.

Heading into the 2025, Sanders was projected to go either in the first or second round but ended up sliding to the fifth. He didn't look particularly great when he was pressed into action but is currently competing with Deshaun Watson for the No. 1 job in Cleveland.

So far, the Browns have yet to shut down the trade speculation, so maybe Sanders may be available after all. If that's the case, should the Jags make a push for him? There's actually a viral post urging them to pull the trigger.

Why would the Jaguars be interested in Shedeur Sanders?

Trevor Lawrence is firmly entrenched as the No. 1. Nick Mullens is a fine backup and could hold the fort if Lawrence misses two or three games. Any more than that would spell trouble for the Jaguars. Carter Bradley is the third-stringer. He could be the primary backup down the road but may not even make the initial 53-man roster this year.

Granted, this isn't a problem unique to the Jags; nearly every NFL team has depth issues at quarterback. With that said, Jacksonville should look for upgrades at the position. While Shedeur Sanders isn't a viable starter at this point of his career, he would be a fine backup.

Sanders appeared in eight games with seven starts last year, completing 56.6 percent of his throws for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. You could make the case that he had an underwhelming supporting cast, and you would be right. On the other hand, the former Colorado Buffalo held onto the football too long at times.

Maybe with better coaching, Sanders could develop into a pretty good quarterback. Heck, he would be an appealing reclamation project if it weren't for one major issue.

Why the Jaguars should steer clear of Shedeur Sanders because of Deion Sanders

Noah Olson of Sports Illustrated believes that it would be hard for Shadeur Sanders to net the Browns a sixth-round pick, but a "quarterback for quarterback" trade would make more sense. He even thinks the Jags could swap Nick Mullens for him. On paper, that sounds like a good deal. However, there's another issue Jacksonville would have to consider.

Deion Sanders has been vocal about Sanders not getting treated fairly and has routinely blasted Cleveland for how they've handled his development. If the Jaguars were to trade for him, they would often hear from Prime Time. Heck, they already do because he can't stop talking about how they never got in touch with him to ask for his input on Travis Hunter.

If the Jaguars traded for Shedeur Sanders, they would have to hear twice as much from Deion Sanders. That immediately makes him a turnoff. The truth is that they're better off looking for upgrades at quarterback within the AFC South.
