Former Jaguars' guard quietly retires from the NFL after 10 successful seasons

This is certainly some news...

The Jacksonville Jaguars can surely rule out any possible return with one of their former offensive linemen, who retired recently. The Jaguars are in a new era, and with that new era hopes to come a long-term plan on offense.

The team dumped Doug Pederson after a few seasons and have now pivoted to Liam Coen, an offensive mastermind who was previously the offensive coordinator on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The ideal situation here is that Coen's youth and proactive, adaptable mindset is what Trevor Lawrence and the rest of the offense need to get back on track. Well, one area of concern could be their offensive line, and if there was any chance that they would bring back this former 51-game starter, it just went out the window.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars' guard quietly calls it an NFL career

After 10 seasons in the NFL and three with the Jacksonville Jaguars, former guard Brandon Scherff retired:

Drafted back in the 2015 NFL Draft, Brandon Scherff played the first 10 seasons of his career with the then-Washington Redskins/Football Team before signing with the Jaguars. This was yet another splash free agency move from former GM Trent Baalke.

And while Scherff did come with an injury history, he all of a sudden put together three-straight seasons of not missing a single start. The Jaguars could have brought him back this offseason, as their interior offensive line is a bit shaky, but it's clear why they didn't.

In total, the five-time Pro Bowler played and started in 140 regular season games over his career and also added another four starts in the postseason. One of the better guards of this generation, Scherff absolutely could have found some work this offseason.

The Jaguars actually did become a better football team when they signed Brandon Scherff, and his presence along the team's offensive line is going to be missed. Congratulations to Scherff on a 10-year NFL career.
