Final Jaguars injury report for Week 13 bodes well for Trevor Lawrence's availability
The Jacksonville Jaguars made the most out of their Bye. Following the humiliating loss to the Detroit Lions, they needed to regroup and recover from what's been a taxing season. After having ample time to rest, they'll be relatively healthy when they face the Houston Texans. More importantly, Trevor Lawrence, their biggest question mark for the divisional bout, is trending towards playing.
Lawrence returned to practice Monday and progressively saw his reps increase. Head coach Doug Pederson said earlier this week that he wasn't ready to commit to the fourth-year quarterback playing but told the local media Friday that he expects him to suit up.
"Yeah, I mean, he's had a good week," Pederson said. "He's obviously done some really good things this week. I would say, as of right now, yes, he will play and, we get through today, Friday, Saturday, but he's, had a good week."
It's fair to say that barring a setback, No. 16 will suit up for the divisional matchup. According to Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union, he looked more comfortable throwing Friday.
Lawrence originally hurt his shoulder in Week 9. A few days after the fact, it was diagnosed as a sprain. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media said that the former first-round pick was weighing his options, which led to chatter about potentially getting season-ending surgery.
Rapoport quickly shut down the speculation at the time, but Lawrence says that he hasn't ruled out getting a procedure done after the season. For the time being, he's had a bit of time to recover and plans to play through the injury.
Apart from Lawrence, no other Jaguar popped up on the injury report with the questionable designation. Running back Tank Bigsby and right guard Brandon Scherff also made an appearance in the report, but both of them were full participants and are good to go. The same is true for cornerback Tyson Campbell, who was limited throughout the week but will be at full strength.
Having said that, sophomore linebacker Yasir Abdullah has already been ruled out. The full injury report for the game is below.
On the opposite sideline, Houston announced earlier this week that defensive back Jalen Pitre will miss several weeks with a shoulder injury. Former Jaguars defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi sat out practice the whole week and won't be suiting up for Week 13 either. Wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson, on the other hand, got the questionable designation.
The Jaguars will welcome Trevor Lawrence with arms wide open vs. the Texans
Having Trevor Lawrence back should give the Jacksonville Jaguars a massive boost. During his absence, Mac Jones filled in for him, and the offense struggled to move the ball and put up points on the scoreboard.
But leaving aside that Lawrence is a better quarterback than Jones, as a leader on the team, his presence could give the locker room a massive morale boost. Doug Pederson, for his part, says that having the starting quarterback behind center is always good, "I think anytime you get your starting quarterback, back out there, that gives you a little little energy and all of that. So it's a positive, yes."
The Jags are currently riding a four-game losing streak and another loss would eliminate them from playoff contention, so they'll need all the help they can get their hands on.
Currently, the Jags are a 5-point favorite for Week 13. Having Trevor Lawrence back in the fold could ultimately give them the spark they need to pull off the upset.
