Trevor Lawrence's passionate remarks show how valuable he is to the Jaguars
One of the biggest plotlines surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars in recent weeks has been Trevor Lawrence's availability or lack thereof. The fourth-year quarterback has been dealing with a shoulder sprain that's forced him to sit out the last two games. However, he wants to suit up against the Houston Texans and is doing anything within his power to make it happen.
Lawrence returned to practice Monday and saw an increase in his workload Wednesday. He told the local media that day that he's made strides in his recovery and wants to join his teammates on the football field.
"So it's good for me to be able to rest and try to heal up as much as possible," Lawrence told the local media Wednesday. "I've definitely made some progress, so I'm feeling better, been able to do a little bit more. It's taking longer than I wanted it to."
Lawrence continued, "I want to be out there and I want to be playing, and it's honestly just sucks watching and then being there in the game, in the sideline, not even dressed out the last two games. That's been tough, but I'm hoping I'm back out there this week. It'd be great. That's what I want. I want to be back on the field plan with my teammates."
Originally, Lawrence got hurt in Week 9. At the time, the severity of the injury was unknown. It was later reported that it was a shoulder sprain and that he could miss several weeks. Moreover, the former Clemson Tiger was weighing his options, which led to speculation about him potentially getting season-ending surgery.
The talks of surgery were quickly shut down. However, Lawrence hasn't entirely ruled out the possibility of getting a procedure done after the season. For the time being, he's taking it day by day.
For the season, Lawrence has completed 61.3 percent of his throws for 2,004 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. Here's his full exchange with the press corps.
Jaguars fans must appreciate Trevor Lawrence's leadership and toughness
Nobody will deny that Trevor Lawrence got off to a slow start in 2024, but he played much better as the season progressed. In fact, he showed how much the Jacksonville Jaguars need him when he was unavailable and Mac Jones filled in for him.
Lawrence deserves props for trying to play through injury. Although it isn't his throwing shoulder, he'll definitely be in pain if he's hit during a game.
And that's the thing, Lawrence could have easily opted for surgery and waited until next year to come back. But if he's proving something, it is that he's tough as nails. Last year, he played through a myriad of ailments. He hasn't been hurt as much this season but still deserves praise because the Jags are 2-9 and are virtually one game away from being eliminated from playoff contention.
Even though their odds are slim, Lawrence doesn't want to leave their teammates on their own, and that's what leaders do. He may ultimately not play against the Houston Texans, but his efforts should not go unnoticed.
