One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason is how they're going to address the cornerback position. While they have a talented trio in Travis Hunter, Jourdan Lewis, and Jarrian Jones, Greg Newsome and Montaric Brown are scheduled to hit the open market.
Couple that with the fact that Lewis and Jones are better suited to play in the slot, and the Jags could need as many as two starters in the boundaries if Brown and Newsome leave. The good news is that there will be several paths the team's brass can take to add reinforcements at corner. And in his latest NFL Mock draft, Matt Miller of ESPN just made a suggestion to bolster the position. That said, it may not be what Jacksonville needs.
The Jaguars are being urged to select Miami CB Keionte Scott in ESPN's mock draft
The Jaguars don't have a first-round pick in this year's draft, and most mocks only cover the first round, so you won't see them pop up often. However, Matt Miller just put together a two-round mock in which Jacksonville chooses Keionte Scott at No. 57, noting that he would offer an intriguing option at nickel to pair up with Travis Hunter. Here's the skinny.
"Scott is an electric slot corner with elite blitzing skills and the speed to close on the ball," Miller wrote. "He's smart and instinctual in coverage, and pairing him with Travis Hunter would be fun."
As Miller noted, Scott was one of the top cornerbacks in the nation last year, registering 54 tackles, five sacks, and one interception return for a touchdown. On top of that, he was a stud against the run, which would make him an ideal fit in Anthony Campanile's scheme in Jacksonville.
On the other hand, Scott struggles in the boundaries. In fact, the Hurricanes staff had him line up in the boundaries in 2024 but moved him back to the slot after the failed experiment last season.
It's also worth noting that Scott suffered a foot injury in 2025 that forced him to miss the late portion of the season. The good news is that it doesn't appear to be nearly as serious as originally thought. That said, teams may have a better idea of where he stands in his recovery at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Why Keionte Scott may not be a fit with the Jaguars
Make no mistake, Keionte Scott's blitzing skills would make him an intriguing fit with the Jaguars, but the Jaguars already have a pair of capable nickels in Jarrian Jones and Jourdan Lewis, so the former Miami standout may not be their answer to their cornerback woes.
This doesn't mean that the Jaguars won't consider adding a cornerback in Rounds 2 or 3. Of course, the odds will decrease if general manager James Gladstone manages to re-sign Montaric Brown before free agency. If he does, the team's need for a starting corner in the boundaries will decrease considerably. That said, even if Jacksonville brings back Brown, it needs to replenish the position, so it wouldn't hurt to add a corner or two on Day 3 of the draft.
It will ultimately be interesting to see how the Jaguars address the cornerback position, but it probably won't be an issue as long as they take care of it.
