When the Jacksonville Jaguars signed wide receiver Dyami Brown last year, they thought they were getting a player who could build off of his strong finish to 2024. However, he struggled to make an impact, tumbling down the depth chart and becoming a non-factor as the season progressed.

To nobody's surprise, the Jags let Brown walk in free agency, and he wasted no time returning to the team that drafted him in 2021, the Washington Commanders, on a one-year deal. But as unproductive as his lone season in Jacksonville was, the former North Carolina Tar Heel says that he left a better player.

Dyami Brown learned a lot from his time with the Jaguars

Dyami Brown met with reporters for the first time since returning to Washington. He says that he's glad to be back and talked about his time with the Jaguars, noting that he learned a lot during his year in Duval.

"It was a great experience for me, went out there, I learned a lot," Brown told the press corps. "Got to learn from some people. I think Jacksonville was the place for where I had to see myself grow in a different way. Dealt with a little bit of adversity, but at the end of the day, it was all still good."

When asked how he was able to grow in Jacksonville, Brown stated that he was able to learn from fellow receiver Brian Thomas Jr. and Jakobi Meyers, and quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

"Really, just mentally. I understand the game a little bit more than I have in the past. I took the steps to learn from other people like Jakobi Meyers, BTJ out there, I had some people that helped me around, even the quarterback Trevor, just learning from him, that kind of took the game into another level and a different viewpoint for me," Brown stated.

The Jaguars weren't a good fit for Dyami Brown

A third-round pick in 2021, Brown was unremarkable in his first three NFL seasons, reeling in 29 yards for 476 yards with three touchdowns in 47 games with seven starts. However, he got hot late in 2024, catching a career-best 30 passes for 308 yards with one touchdown.

Brown's surge made the Jaguars think that he was just beginning to showcase his potential. This led them to give him a one-year deal worth $10 million. Early on, he lived up to expectations, making a strong impression in the offseason program and training camp. Then, the regular season came, and the Charlotte, North Carolina native had eight catches for 109 yards with one touchdown the first two games. It was all downhill from there.

Brown struggled and slowly began to be phased out of the offense. By the end of the season, he didn't have a role on offense and was inactive for the playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.

Now that he's back with the Commanders, though, Brown will get another fresh start. And after he learned with the Jaguars, maybe he can put it all together this time around.
