The Jacksonville Jaguars are skyrocketing toward the top of the AFC playoff picture on the back of a suddenly elite offense. Trevor Lawrence is playing some of the best football of his career, leading the Jags to five consecutive wins, and seemingly nobody is noticing.
That is, except for Dan Orlovsky. The analyst took to the Pat McAfee Show this week to break down just how much this offense has shifted. He was hesitant to jump on the bandwagon a few weeks ago, despite recognizing Lawrence's talent.
Now, he's fully on board.
Dan Orlovsky has high praise for Trevor Lawrence and Jaguars' offense
Lawrence has been on a heater recently. Over the last three games, the young QB has thrown nine touchdowns and zero interceptions. He's anticipating open receivers like never before and placing the ball with a newfound confidence that has fans in Jacksonville over the moon with excitement.
According to Orlovsky, Lawrence's growth is tied directly to his trust in head coach Liam Coen. Here's what he told McAfee.
"It's almost to a point like, 'I could place this ball wherever I need to, I just have so much confidence in myself, in the play call, in the people.' There's very much a Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay element to this where as a play caller, as a quarterback, you're like, 'I have so much confidence in these play calls right now. I'm just gonna cut this sucker loose because I believe that dudes will be open."
Comparing Coen to Shanahan and McVay, two of the best offensive play callers and head coaches in football, is certainly high praise for a first-year coach. But that's the kind of run this offense has been on. Jacksonville has scored at least 25 points in seven consecutive games. They're churning through the back half of their schedule with efficient, explosive play.
Coen has figured out how to use each of the weapons in this offense in the best way possible, and Lawrence is taking advantage. He trusts that his receivers will be where they're supposed to be, a trait that couldn't have always been said during his career. That trust, combined with his improved accuracy, has completely transformed Jacksonville's season.
Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars are getting hot at the right time, with just weeks to go before the playoffs begin. Pretty soon, the whole NFL will take notice of the dominance that Orlovsky pointed out.
