While the Jacksonville Jaguars have some question marks across the roster, wide receiver appears to be a strength. With Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr., and Travis Hunter, Trevor Lawrence will have no shortage of weapons next season. On top of that, rookies CJ Williams and Josh Cameron offer depth and upside at the position.
Heck, the Jags are so stacked at receiver that they may leave a handful of intriguing options off the roster come cutdown day. Sixth-year pro Austin Trammell is one of them, but he's doing his best to stick around in Duval next season.
Austin Trammell is making a push to earn a roster spot with the Jaguars
Mia O'Brien of Action News Jax noted that Austin Trammell was among the offensive standouts on Day 10 of Jaguars training camp, reeling in a pair of long touchdowns from Nick Mullens. This arguably was his strongest showing in the summer.
Trammell signed with the Atlanta Falcons after going undrafted in 2021. He then spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams before bolting for the Jags in 2024.
Although Trammell didn't make the initial 53-man roster in his first season in Duval, he did land on special teams and was elevated once on game day. Then, a new regime took over in 2025, and the Spring, Texas native made a good enough impression that he managed to stick around, this time on the active roster. He was eventually cut and signed to the practice squad but still ended up suiting up for six games.
In seven contests with the Jags, Trammell has caught five receptions for 86 yards. For his career, he's appeared in 31 games and hauled in 11 catches on 24 targets for 128 yards. He's also returned 28 punts, three of them with the Jags.
Why Austin Trammell has an uphill battle to make the Jaguars roster
As good as he looked on Day 10, Austin Trammell might not have stacked up enough strong performances to make the team. Meanwhile, rookies CJ Williams and Josh Cameron have routinely shown out. Compounding the issue is that the Jaguars have better depth at receiver than last year, when they didn't have a clear-cut option for the No. 5 spot and kicked the tires on Trenton Irwin.
Now, Tramell finds himself competing with Cameron and Williams for a roster spot. While he could contribute as a returner on special teams, Cameron could also fill that role and has more upside.
Of course, the preseason will give Trammell a true opportunity to make the team. It could give him the edge he needs to get the nod over either Williams or Cameron.
Right now, Austin Trammell seems to be the odd man out, but his bid to make the Jaguars 53-man roster shouldn't be ruled out just yet.
