The Jacksonville Jaguars announced their official 53-man roster after the cutdown deadline. Like any other year, there were some surprises and a few duds. That said, the end result looks good on paper, as the Jags have lots of talent and solid depth at nearly every position. That said, they may not be done making moves.
Like every other team, Jacksonville could make tweaks to the roster in the upcoming days. Several players just became free agents after going unclaimed on the waiver wire. It wouldn't be shocking to see general manager James Gladstone add one or two to the mix. If he does, though, he'll need to free up a spot.
These makes the following players candidates to get the boot after making the initial 53-man roster.
5 Jaguars players who are on the roster but could be cut
Quintin Morris, tight end
Heading into the regular season, one of the biggest roster questions was how many tight ends the Jaguars were going to carry. Because they kept four, Quintin Morris got the nod. On the one hand, this isn't surprising when you take into account that Morris moved ahead of Johnny Mundt and Hunter Long on the depth chart last year.
On the other hand, the former Bowling Green product was unable to make strides in the offseason, raising questions about his future in Jacksonville. In the end, the top brass decided that he was worthy of a roster spot, but it'll be interesting to see if he can keep him all year long.
Christian Braswell, cornerback
One of Jacksonville's biggest position battles in training camp took place at cornerback. More specifically, Christian Braswell and Jabbar Muhammad competed for the No. 5 job. Throughout the offseason, Muhammad was the favorite to get the nod, as he showed substantial improvement from 2025. However, he was inconsistent in training camp, which is partly why the Jags kicked him to the curb.
Braswell, for his part, missed a portion of training camp but was able to bounce back. He seemingly was able to do enough to fend off Muhammad. However, he can't rest on his laurels. If Muhammad keeps improving, he could take Braswell's spot as the year progresses.
Ameer Abdullah, running back
When the Jaguars signed Ameer Abdullah in the offseason, he looked like not much more than a camp body. However, the veteran running back was still granted a chance to compete, and he made the most of it.
Abdullah managed to make the cut over DeeJay Dallas and J'Mari Taylor because he can pass-block and contribute on special teams. It helped that the 2016 second-round pick had a strong showing in Week 2 of the preseason.
The issue is that Abdullah may not be safe. Once LeQuint Allen Jr., who has the same skill set, is back in the fold, Abdullah could get his walking papers.
Matt Dickerson, defensive tackle
The Jaguars brought in Matt Dickerson last year. He managed to work his way into the 53-man roster. This is why the former UCLA Bruin was given a new one-year deal in 2026. However, he seemed to be on the fringe in the offseason after the arrival of Albert Regis and Ruke Orhorhoro.
Dickerson was able to secure the No. 3 spot at defensive tackle over Regis and Orhorhoro, but could be phased out in favor of either one as the year progresses. If that's what happens, Jacksonville could allocate his roster spot to another position.
Jahlani Tavai, linebacker
The Jaguars signed Jahlani Tavai after Jack Kiser (and Jared Bartlett) went down in training camp. Seemingly a depth signing, Tavai made a strong enough impression in the offseason to secure a roster spot.
But barring anything unexpected (e.g., injuries), it's hard to see Tavai get much playing time next season. This could potentially make him vulnerable to losing his roster spot at some point in 2026.
