Since Liam Coen became the head coach, the Jacksonville Jaguars have put an emphasis on competition, making virtually every player earn their jobs. That won't change anytime soon. In fact, there could be a handful of roles up for grabs in training camp.
While players are still prohibited from making contact in this phase of the offseason program, many have made a strong impression and will go into training camp looking to strengthen their bids for either starting or key backup roles.
With this in mind, here are five position battles worth monitoring ahead of mandatory minicamp and training camp.
5. Jaguars WR4; CJ Williams vs. Tim Jones
Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr., and Jakobi Meyers hold the top three receiver spots on the depth chart. Travis Hunter will also get snaps, but he'll tentatively spend more time at corner next season. This begs the question: Can CJ Williams beat veteran Tim Jones for the No. 4 job?
Williams has grabbed attention throughout OTAs with his speed and route-running. On the other hand, Jones is a special teams ace who can be thrust into action if needed.
Jones has the edge by virtue of being the veteran, but Williams has bigger upside, so it will be up to him to make a strong impression.
4. Jaguars TE4: Tanner Koziol vs. Quintin Morris
Quntin Morris signed with the Jaguars in 2025 and signed a new one-year deal to stay next season. The coaching staff likes him a lot, and his blocking prowess will help him carve a niche.
With Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol slated to back up Brenton Strange, Morris will need to hold off veteran Hunter Long for the No. 4 job. Long is a better pass-catcher, so that could give him a bit of an advantage, so it will be up to him to make the most of his chances.
3. Jaguars EDGE3: Danny Striggow vs. Zach Durfee
Danny Striggow flashed as a rookie and is expected to make strides in 2026. However, he'll need to hold off rookies Zach Durfee and Wesley Williams, both of whom will be looking for roles in the pass rush rotation.
Durfee was dubbed prospect X in the draft process, and Williams has the potential to become a role contributor. Both still have a long way to go, but could turn the corner soon.
2. Jaguars RG: Emmanuel Pregnon vs. Patrick Mekari
Patrick Mekari struggled in 2025, partly because he dealt with injuries. But he appears to be 100 percent in Year 2 of his stint with the Jags. If that's the case, he'll have a legitimate chance to hold off rookie Emmanuel Pregnon, who was dubbed a steal in Round 3 of the draft.
Pregnon has seemingly looked the part at OTAs, but he'll need to show out in mandatory camp if he wants to have a shot at unseating Mekari.
1. Jaguars safety: Caleb Ransaw vs. Eric Murray
Caleb Ransaw will no doubt be competing for a starting job, but he probably won't come for Antonio Johnson's as he's coming off a banner season and is expected to pick up where he left off in 2025. Instead, expect Ransaw to challenge Eric Murray for the other spot at safety.
Throughout training camp, Ransaw has put on display his top-notch athleticism. That could end up helping him seize the job.
