The Jacksonville Jaguars were very happy with Travis Etienne in 2022. He was one of the better running backs in the NFL. He rushed for 1125 yards on 220 carries with five touchdowns. It was a very productive year as the offense took a big step forward.

A good running game is going to be very important as Trevor Lawrence continues to develop into one of the league’s top players. Etienne is going to come in as the projected number one this year but that doesn’t mean that they can’t add more.

The New York Jets announced on Friday that they are not bringing James Robinson back. Of course, he played four games with the Jets this season after playing seven games with the Jaguars before that. He was traded from Jacksonville to New York in late October.

Coming into 2023, he is looking for a place where he can be a backup/situational back for a good team. The Jaguars can offer him something like that. It would also relieve Etienne a little bit as he enters his second year in the league after playing every game of his rookie year.

The Jacksonville Jaguars could use a player like James Robinson this year.

Staying fresh is important for everyone so bringing Robinson back could really help the offense out. There will certainly be other teams out there that are in the mix for a player like this. He isn’t going to go anywhere and move the needle but he can add an extra layer of depth.

Robinson isn’t someone that is very shy about his opinions. After Breece Hall went down for the season in New York, they acquired Robinson. By the end of the year though, he wasn’t a lock to play and he wasn’t happy about some of those decisions.

It isn’t ideal to see this for a player but you do have to take the 2022 Jets lightly as it seemed to be a bit toxic there sometimes. Now, with the potential to add Aaron Rodgers, the franchise is moving away from some pieces that they don’t believe can help.

Obviously, that isn’t something that has to hurt the Jaguars though. He has had other good years in the league though which is why a team like the Jags can take a cheap risk on him this off-season.
