The Jacksonville Jaguars are getting set for the big weekend game against the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. It is a Saturday afternoon game at Arrowhead where it has been very hard for visiting teams to play for the last handful of years.

Of course, the Chiefs have the league’s best quarterback in Patrick Mahomes. It is hard to argue it as he dominates almost everyone he plays every single week. He makes all of the big plays that you expect from other top quarterbacks in the league without any mistakes.

The Jaguars have no slouch at quarterback either. Trevor Lawrence was the best quarterback in the country in both high school and college right before being the number one overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Now, he is a stud in the NFL as well.

It took him a minute to reach his current status (the Urban Meyer experiment didn’t help him at all) but he is there now and everyone in Jacksonville is extremely excited about it. The future is incredibly bright for both him and his organization.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are lucky to have Trevor Lawrence at this stage.

In fact, since around Thanksgiving (week twelve or so), Lawrence has been right there with Mahomes as the best quarterback in the NFL. There are actually some stats that prove it too for anyone that might be skeptical about this fact.

Since week 12, including playoffs, they are both 7-1 which is about as good of a record as you can have. Lawrence is completing 66 percent of his passes as opposed to Mahomes and his 67 percent. Lawrence is at 7.3 yards per attempt while Mahomes is at 8.2.

They have both in this time span thrown for 16 touchdowns which is a very nice total. Lawrence has one extra interception (6) on Mahomes (5). Again, this is with multiple years less of experience in the case of Lawrence as well. He is getting close to being amongst the best in the league.

Mahomes is a better player than Lawrence. There is a chance that he always will be. However, it is not clear that the margin will be big for a while. In fact, Lawrence shrinks the gap with every passing week.

Take Super Wild Card Weekend for example. Lawrence was horrid in the first half. He threw four interceptions and was down 27-0. In the second half, things were different. He was near perfect against the only defense that caused him to struggle for a half in two months.

Both of these guys have the ability to make adjustments and plenty of talent. Mahomes has a coaching/weapons advantage which could be the difference in this game but the quarterback matchup is closer than most people think.
