Destiny awaits Jaguars ahead of pivotal Week 18 matchup against Titans
By Jack Aaron
If Jacksonville Jaguars fans had been told before the start of the 2022 season that their team would be 3-7 through ten weeks, no one would be surprised. In fact, many would be satisfied that they had won two more games than last year.
If you told those same fans that Doug Pederson and Co. would rattle off five wins over the next six weeks to contest the AFC South division title, they’d ask what you’re smoking but that’s precisely how things have played out.
Following their close-ish 27-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9, it appeared as if Jacksonville’s season was dead in the water. Despite the fact that the Jags were competitive for most games early in the 2022 season, they couldn’t get over the hump.
In previous years, the Jaguars would’ve simply thrown in the towel and called it a good season because it was up to that point. However, coach Doug Pederson and bonafide franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence weren’t going to let that happen though.
The pair chose to lock in and rally the team the only way they know how. Through grit, perseverance, and an undying sense to fight until the whistle is blown.
A comeback win against Baltimore propelled the Jaguars’ turnaround
Lawrence showing his clutch genes invigorated his teammates to give it their all. Not long ago, he told the media that the loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 8 flipped a switch. True to his word he did the unthinkable against one of the most dominant teams over the past half-decade and helped the Jags stun the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12.
It was the beginning of a dominant four-game stretch for Trevor Lawrence in which he tossed 11 touchdowns to only one interception. As the offense began to take off, the defense followed suit. A tough loss to the Detroit Lions notwithstanding, the defense has stepped up and made plays when needed most. This was evident in the bank just two weeks ago against Dallas.
Just when Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys offense were marching down the field in overtime of Week 14, safety Rayshawn Jenkins came up with a tip-drill interception touchdown return that made every Jags fan jump off their couch.
Fast forward a couple of weeks with a primetime win against the New York Jets in Week 16, a 31-3 blowout against the Texans in NRG Stadium, and suddenly the Jaguars are one the hottest team in the league.
All the dedication and hard work from coaches and players will come down to the final game of the season when the Titans visit the bank on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8:15. Win and you’re in Jags fans.
