The Jacksonville Jaguars got one step closer to the AFC title and trip to the playoffs when they beat the Houston Texans in Week 17. Now, only the Tennesse Titans stand on their path and the NFL has made the decision to move the game to Saturday.

Hours after defeating Texas, the league announced the game was moved to Saturday. Despite the fact that the Titans are 7-8 and riding a six-game losing streak, they can get in the playoffs if they beat Jacksonville in the season finale, that’s why the NFL made the right call when they chose to move what’s poised to be a must-watch game to Saturday Night.

It may lack the appeal of Sunday or Monday Night Football but it’s still a game in primetime and more people will tune in because it will be the only game airing at that time. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders will also play on Saturday but it will be at 4:30 p.m. ET, so fewer people might tune in.

Even though the day of the matchup was changed, it will still be held at TIAA Bank Field. Following the win over the Texans, head coach Doug Pederson didn’t know yet when the game was going to be played. Yet, he told the media it was going to be electrifying regardless.

It should be electric”, Pederson said. “We’re playing for the AFC South. We need all our fans that can get there, get there. It’s gonna be a great atmosphere and our guys will feed off of that energy and it’ll be fun”.

The Jaguars have now won eight games. This is only the second time they’ve had as many since 2008 and they’ll have a chance to finish the season with a winning record, the division crown, and a trip to the postseason if they beat the Titans at the Bank.

Doug Pederson will have the Jaguars ready to play the Titans Saturday

Pederson told the media he would rather play Sunday because of the extra day to rest and prepare. However, he will have the team ready for Saturday.

“I would love to play Sunday to have these next couple of days. We’ll play when they ask us or tell us to play and our guys will be ready to go but if I could pick, I’d pick Sunday”.

If there’s one thing Pederson has shown during his tenure in Jacksonville is that he will have players ready. They played the New York Jets on the road in a short week and managed to earn a win. Similarly, the Jags could have taken it easy against the Texans in Week 16 but instead showed up and soundly defeated them.

It seemed like the Jags were done when they lost the Denver Broncos in Week 8 but they’ve come back to life and are close to finishing what’s turned out to be a special season at home on a Saturday Night.
