One of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ highlights of the 2019 NFL season came against the Las Vegas (then Oakland) Raiders in Week 15. That was the last game the Silver and Black ever played at the Oakland Coliseum and the Jags made sure it ended on a sour note thanks to a couple of touchdowns by Gardner Minshew.

Jacksonville and the Raiders will once again meet in Week 9 of the 2022 season and both clubs are in desperate need of a win. The Jaguars are currently sitting on a five-game losing streak while Las Vegas is coming off a game in which they managed to score a single point against a bad New Orleans team.

So how do the Jags and the Raiders stack up against each other and what are the odds and the spread for their Week 9 matchup at TIAA Bank Field? Glad you ask.

The truth of the matter is that both clubs are making it difficult to root for either one. Trevor Lawrence was supposed to make a leap in Year 2 but has a long way to go before he proves he’s the long-term answer at quarterback for the Jags. Similarly, Las Vegas was expected to compete in a stacked AFC West but has managed to win just two games despite the fact that they traded for Davante Adams, arguably the best wide receiver in the league, in the offseason.

The fact that the Raiders are favorites by less than two points shows bettors think this will be a close game and it either team could end up winning. Working in the Jags favor is that they haven’t been blown out this season and all their losses have come by eight points or fewer.

Moreover, the Raiders’ defense ranks 25th in points surrendered, so this is a great opportunity for Jacksonville and Lawrence to bounce back. Having said that, the Jaguars were favored to win each of their last three games and they lost each one of them, so it’s hard to get behind them.

This writer thought that the Jags were going to put it all together and ended up losing to the Broncos. Then again, the 2-5 Raiders present yet another opportunity to make a step in the right direction.
