Most fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars will try to forget Urban Meyer’s stint as the head coach after leaving the team in arguably worse shape than it was before he took over. However, one of the bright spots in his tenure in Jacksonville was his cameo in All Elite Wrestling and if Tony Khan’s wish comes true, a Jaguars alumnus could also make an appearance in AEW.

During Super Bowl Week, Khan talked to Karisa Maxwell of Sporting News and touched on several topics, such as AEW’s expansion to the west coast, promoting diversity and inclusion within the sport, and the potential for crossover with athletes from other sports. When asked which non-wrestling athlete Khan would like the show, he said former Jaguars running back Fred Taylor and went on to explain why.

"Well, it’s a great question I would love, I think I’d have to say Fred Taylor. He was one of the greatest running backs ever. I think Fred Taylor belongs in the Hall of Fame. There’s only two running backs in the history of the NFL, whoever carried the ball 2,500 times and maintained an average of 4.6 yards a carry or more. Only two ever, Barry Sanders and Fred Taylor. And now, we get the first Jaguar ever just made the Hall of Fame."

Khan went on to say that he celebrated the selection of All-Pro offensive tackle Tony Boselli into the Pro Football’s Hall of Fame and hopes Fred Taylor and former Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith get inducted soon. But wait! That wasn’t the end of it. Fred Taylor caught wind of the interview on social media and said that he’s ready to rumble. Then, Jimmy Smith chimed in asked to count him in.

Jaguars legends Fred Taylor and Jimmy Smith deserve to be in the HOF.

Putting aside that it would be great to see Fred Taylor and Jimmy Smith make a cameo in AEW, Khan made a very valid point. Now that Boselli’s well-deserved selection has come, it’s time for the Hall of Fame to enshrine both Taylor and Smith. Both players were some of the best at their respective positions in the late 1900s and the 2000s.

You could make that case that there’s been a logjam to get into the Hall of Fame but that doesn’t justify Taylor’s and Smith’s omission. Their numbers stack up pretty well when compared to those of other players from the same era, so there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be in.

On the bright side, it took Boselli a while to get selected but eventually got in, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see Taylor and Smith wait a bit more but ultimately make it. Sure, it would be great to see them get inducted as soon as next year but they just have to keep waiting. There’s going to be a point where it will no longer make sense to keep them out.

Taylor and Smith will have a strong case to get into the Hall of Fame sooner rather than later.  In the meantime, watching both Jaguars legends make an appearance in AEW will do.
